Day 01

Angkor Thom, Jungle Temples and Sunset at Phnom Bakheng

Meet your tour guide at 8:30 a.m. for pickup from your hotel and begin the day tour.
Visit the UNESCO-declared World Heritage Site, starting from the south gate of Angkor Thom. It was the last capital city of the Khmer Empire and the world's largest capital city, with about 1 million people in the 12th century.
Continue to Bayon Temple, famous for the four smiling faces on each tower, as well as Baphuon, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King.
See the jungle temples of Ta Nei and Ta Prohm, covered by trees, where you will feel as though you are rediscovering the Angkor temples, just as Henri Mahout rediscovered the temples in the jungle by accident in 1860 AD. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant to taste real local Cambodian, or Khmer, food.
Head to Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world and one of the world's wonders. Angkor Wat is the national symbol of Cambodia, and you will see its towers appear on the national flag of Cambodia. Spend time exploring the temple and admiring the very well-preserved carvings on its sandstone walls.

- Dress Code: Revealing clothes such as shorts and skirts above the knees and showing bare shoulders are prohibited in sacred places. Respectful dress is strongly encouraged in Angkor.
- Sacred Sites: As Angkor is a sacred site, loud conversation, noise, and other inappropriate behaviour in Cambodian culture are considered offensive and may disturb other visitors. Please keep calm and be respectful.
- Smoking and Littering: As a member of the World Health Organization, Angkor has been a smoke-free site since 2012. Smoking cigarettes disturbs others, and cigarettes can start bushfires. To protect the environment, please do not smoke or litter.
- Monks are revered and respected. If you want to take pictures, please ask for permission first. Women should not touch, stand, or sit too close to monks.
- Monuments: Touching carvings, sitting on fragile structures, leaning on temple structures, and moving or taking archaeological artifacts or making graffiti are strictly prohibited. Backpacks, umbrellas with sharp tips, tripods, and high heels are discouraged inside the temples.
- Restricted Areas: For your safety and the conservation of Angkor, please comply with all signs on the site and be mindful of your steps at all times. Do not climb on loose stones.
- Candy or money to children or buying items: Giving children candy or money encourages them not to attend school but to beg. If you wish to help the children, please consider donating to a recognized charity.
