Itinerary
-
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m/4,592 ft)
- A member of our agencies will greet you at the airport and transport you to your hotel.
- Once you arrive at the hotel, check-in and rest.
- Later in the day, your guide will give you a travel orientation and assist you with all trek requirements.
-
Day 2: Fly to Lukla (2,840m/9,316ft) - Trek to Phakding (2,610m/8,561ft)
- Take a morning flight to Lukla, the Everest gateway; you will meet the rest of the team once you get in Lukla and sort your belongings before beginning your short hike to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.
- Head down to Phakding after passing Lukla Bazar. It is a short trek that takes around 3 to 4 hours to get to Phakding and cross the Dudh Koshi River to get to the lovely settlement of Phakding.
Duration: 35 minutes flight, 3-4 hours (8 km) trek
-
Day 3: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,284ft)
- The trail passes through pine and rhododendron woodlands.
- As you climb higher, you will come across a series of suspension bridges, the highest of which is the Hillary Bridge across the Imja Khola (river); catch your first glimpse of Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain, and other 7,000 and 8,000 meter giants just before arriving at Namche.
- Stop by a teahouse for a break.
Walking Distance: 6-7 hours (10.5 km) trek
-
Day 4: First Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazar (3,440m/11,284ft)
- Take a day off and unwind in Namche, the Sherpa heartland. The village is carved into a mountaintop with views of Thamserku, Kantega, and Ama Dablam, all covered with snow; a short hike to Hotel Everest View and Khumjung Village for acclimatization is recommended.
- Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku can all be seen from Hotel Everest View, situated above Namche. Khumjung Village is an ancient Sherpa hamlet with a monastery (which includes a Yeti's scalp) and Sir Edmund Hillary's first school in the Khumbu Region.
Walking Distance: 4-5 hours (6 km) trek
-
Day 5: Trek to Tengboche (3,860m/12,661ft)
- Depart Namche towards Tengboche, a tiny settlement with only a few residences. Tengboche Gompa, the oldest and most prestigious Buddhist monastery in the Everest region, is named after the settlement. You may visit the monastery with your guide and see a Buddhist prayer ritual.
Walking Distance: 5-6 hours (10 km) trek
-
Day 6: Trek to Dingboche (4,410m/14,465ft)
- Early in the morning, catch the sunrise above Ama Dablam, a summit overlooking Tengboche. Ama Dablam is often regarded as one of the world's most beautiful mountains; continue hiking to Dingboche after breakfast, and you may feel the effects of high altitude as you move past the 4,000-meter mark.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and take frequent stops, making photography your excuse.
Walking Distance: 5-6 hours (11 km) trek
-
Day 7: Second Acclimatization Day at Dingboche (4,410m/14,465ft) - Hike to Nagarjun Hill (5,100m)
- Nagarjun Hill is a short hike from the village; the vegetation thins out as the tree line disappears, and the scenery becomes barren and bleak. It is a steep ascent but may be climbed without technical climbing.
- You can see a 360-degree panorama of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Makalu, Lhotse, and other peaks from the top.
Walking Distance: 4-5 hours (4.5 km) trek
-
Day 8: Trek to Lobuche (4,910m/16,105ft)
- Take the Lobuche trail and pass via Thukla and Thukla Pass; stone monuments honour climbers who died while attempting to summit Mount Everest near Thukla Pass. Rob Hall and Scott Fischer, whose tragic Mount Everest trek is the subject of Jon Krakauer's famous book "Into Thin Air" and the film "Everest," are among the memorials. There is also a memorial dedicated to Late Babu Chiri Sherpa, one of Nepal's best mountaineers who set a new world record for climbing Everest without supplemental oxygen, remaining at the peak for 21 hours and 56 minutes, and reaching the summit in 16 hours and 56 minutes.
- There are a few teahouses in Lobuche that provide minimal services.
Walking Distance: 6-7 hours (8 km) trek
-
Day 9: Trek to Gorak Shep (5,140m/16,860ft) and Hike to EBC (5,364m/17,594ft)
- Your Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar Short Trek have arrived; your goal to reach Everest Base Camp on foot will be completed today. Remember to keep your pace slow and steady because you will be walking over 5,000 meters.
- Go to a teahouse once you have arrived at Gorak Shep.
- After the meal, take a break and climb to Everest Base Camp; the Khumbu Glacier runs parallel to the trail and has jagged rocks and gravel, which might be challenging to walk on, so take extra caution.
- Capture images and enjoy the stunning view once you arrive at EBC. Though the peak of Mount Everest is not visible from Everest Base Camp, the Ice Fall, Nuptse, and Lhotse can be seen.
Walking Distance: 7-8 hours (12 km) trek
-
Day 10: Hike to Kala Patthar (5,550m/18,204ft), return to Lukla via Helicopter
- Start your Kala Patthar climb early in the morning; the most popular overlook in the Everest region is Kala Patthar, at 5,550 meters, the highest point on your trek, and brings you directly above Gorak Shep.
- Mount Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, Lhotse, and other world-famous peaks can all be seen here in Kala Patthar.
- Later, return to your teahouse and bid your goodbyes to the trekking group (porters and assistant guides), and board a helicopter that gets you to Lukla, flying close to the mountains for a bird's eye perspective of some of the world's highest peaks.
- Once you arrive at Lukla after a brief break, you will board a flight back to Kathmandu and be transported to your accommodation.
- Once you arrive in Kathmandu, take it easy and relax.
Duration: 45 minutes flight, 2-3 hours (3 km) trek
-
Day 11: Free Day in Kathmandu
- The valley of Kathmandu has much to offer; you may either join a guided city tour or go exploring on your own in Kathmandu.
- Later in the evening, celebrate the completion of your Everest Base Camp short walk with a farewell dinner and cultural programming.
-
Day 12: Final Departure
- Today, you will bid farewell to Nepal and the friends you made along the journey.
