Mikulov, Valtice, and Lednice Heritage Walk

  1. Meet your guide and transfer to southern Moravia to arrive in the small medieval town of Mikulov. You may explore the town and its castle, built on limestone rock, or take an easy walk to the Pálava Hills, limestone hills along the Czech-Austrian border that form a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with unique flora and fauna. Part of the local castle has been restored as the Museum of Wine. Nearly every village offers an excellent connection to local wine producers.
  • Later, we can walk through the magnificent park in Lednice, with its fountains, extensive views, castle ruins, and a lake with 15 islands.

Meals: Dinner with wine tasting

Day 02

White Carpathians and Petrov Wine Cellars

  • In the morning, visit the White Carpathian Mountains and walk leisurely through their beautiful orchid meadows.
  • Later, travel to the village of Petrov and visit an exciting group of baroque wine cellars from the 18th and 19th centuries, where you may taste local wines. This area is also known for its folklore traditions - the region between the White Carpathians and the Chřiby Hills is called Slovácko, where some of the most distinctive cultural traditions in the Czech Republic still live. The area below the Chřiby Hills is also known for excellent-quality wines. Stop at the open-air museum in Strážnice.

Day 03

Buchlov Castle, Buchlovice Chateau, and Velehrad

  • In the morning, we can walk from Buchlovice village to Buchlov Castle. It is one of the oldest castles in Moravia. Its history is connected with Fridegilda, the first Christian queen of the Marcomans, and Svatopluk, the best-known lord of Moravian lands. The beech forest around the castle is part of the Chřiby Hills.
  • Later, we will continue to Buchlovice, visiting Buchlovice Chateau, an 18th-century Italian chateau that still contains most of its original Rococo furniture left behind by the family when they fled to Austria in 1945, as well as the surrounding park. The chateau's wine cellar will give us another opportunity for wine tasting.
  • Visit the little town of Velehrad, with its beautiful cathedral from the 9th century, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the Czech Republic. If time allows, we may also stop in Slavkov (Austerlitz), the battle site of December 1805, where Napoleon defeated the allied Austrian and Russian armies.

End of trip, or additional days may be added. It may also be arranged as a 5-7 day trip.
