Old and New Delhi City Tour
- After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel, or the guide will meet you at the agreed location. Then, the guide will take you on a tour of Old and New Delhi.
- We will cross the city into the walled gates of the Old City, where we will visit Jama Masjid (1650) and drive through the fabled area of Chandni Chowk, which aptly translates to Moonlight Square, where throngs of shoppers and vendors gather in the oldest area of Delhi. The highlight of this tour is a ride on cycle rickshaws. These are 3-wheel cycles with a sofa seat at the back. The rickshawalla (rickshaw driver) sits on a small cushion in the front, while two passengers sit on the sofa seat behind. This is a remarkable way to explore and capture the hustle and bustle, as well as the colour of the narrow winding streets bursting with people and pavement shops selling wares of all descriptions - including a laughing set of dentures. The ride is accompanied by peals of laughter from both the passengers and the onlookers.
- Next, go to Raj Ghat and the nearby ghats where the founder of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and later Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, were cremated.
- In the afternoon, we will proceed to Humayun's Tomb (1586) and Qutub Minar - 72 metres high and one of the most perfect towers in the Persian world. The Iron Pillar has survived the vagaries of weather for over 1,500 years.
- Continue with a drive through the Embassy area and the Government buildings (1921-1930).
- Afterwards, we will move to the National War Memorial, from where you can easily see India Gate.
- During the tour of Delhi, if you want to do some shopping, the guide will take you to handicraft emporiums where you can get the best souvenirs.
