Explore the Hidden Treasures of Tunis Medina
- Meet your tour guide and begin your visit to the Medina from the European side of the city, admiring its eastern gate, the Sea Gate, or the "French Door." At the place called "Marine Square," notice buildings that once served as consulates, such as the Portuguese, English, and Swedish ones.
- Walk for less than one minute and enter the Medina by its main street, Rue Jemaa Ezzitouna, which leads directly to the Great Mosque of Tunis, the second in all of North Africa after that of Kairouan. This same street contains interesting monuments such as the Norvégien Consulate, the Slavery Jail, 18th- and 19th-century military barracks, and colourful shops. Whenever we leave this main street, we will visit a medersa, a kind of 18th-century school, Souk El Balat, a market of medicinal plants, the Andalusian Quarter, the slavery market, and the mausoleum of a saintly person. Taste traditional Tunisian tea.
- Head to the most elegant street of the Medina, Rue Dar El Jeld. Further on, we will join the northern side of the Medina, where a woman directs a cultural center that bears the name of a famous writer who struggled for women's rights all his life.
- See an elegant 19th-century house with a certain syncretism of different cultures. From that point, we will turn back, walking through narrow streets and admiring the beauty of many doors with their different colours. This walking tour will be amazing and memorable because it is unique. While returning, we will come across the Kasbah and its market of the Andalusian hat called the local chechia.
- End the tour.
