Day 01
Walking Through the Medina of Sousse
- We will start with the Ribat, this fortress dating back to the 9th century AD, a few years before the Great Mosque was built, which also started as a fortress before turning into a mosque in the middle of the same century. Both monuments are distinguished by a new architectural style introduced by the Arabs in Tunisia and North Africa. (Tickets not included).
- After the visit, we will start our walk inside the historic center, following the north wall and passing other minor religious buildings. You can also visit some of the old houses in the medina.
- We will reach the highest area of the city, which is still occupied today by the Kasbah (Alcazaba), the palace of Forlalza and formerly the seat and official residence of the governors of Sousse for centuries. Currently, the fortress houses the second archaeological museum in the country, with a rich collection of Roman mosaics whose visit is essential for travelling through the different cultures that the city has known throughout its history.
- We will continue our walk along the southern wall to finish by crossing the souks (old markets), which still maintain their old structure, occupying different streets and alleys with various stalls of handicrafts, spices, vegetables, fabrics, and clothes, in an atmosphere of social frenzy that makes this the liveliest area of the medina.
- Before finishing our walk and leaving the medina, we will have a mint tea or a Tunisian coffee in one of the old cafes in the souk.

There is no better way to enjoy the charm of the oriental-style old city and discover its most hidden attractions than to stroll through its winding streets. In addition to its ancient and famous monuments, such as the Great Mosque or the Ribat, the city has several hidden corners and buildings unknown even to the natives, and their originality may surprise them.
