Embark on this thrilling full-day excursion to South Senegal and cross the Gambia-Senegal southern border. Drive past several traditional villages to reach Kafountine village and its local market, then cruise by motorboat on the Casamance River to Pelican Island to see white pelicans. Continue to Kailo Island to visit the gods of animism and gain insight into local beliefs, traditions, culture, and customs. The experience also includes a look at traditional farming practices and a visit to the Kafountine fish market.

The itinerary

Day 01

Border Crossing, Pelican Island, and Kailo Island by Boat

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning at 6:30 am and drive you to the Gambian-Senegalese southern border point for passport control.
Upon arrival in Kafountine village, visit a local market and later continue driving to the riverside at Casel village.
Then, board your motorboat to explore Pelican Island and spot lots of pelicans.
Next, proceed by boat to Kailo Island. Meet the gods of animism and learn about their way of life, beliefs, tradition, and culture.
Afterwards, head to their weed farms and gardens to learn about their traditional way of farming.
Later, return to Kafountine village for lunch at Bendula Hotel. After lunch, have a 20-minute rest and visit the Kafountine fish market.
