Day 02

Gorilla Trekking Experience and Departure

You will rise very early, refresh, enjoy a hearty breakfast, collect your packed lunch, and transfer to the Kinigi park headquarters for registration and a pre-gorilla trekking briefing. You will be served a hot cup of coffee while enjoying traditional dances performed at the park headquarters.

You will be grouped in parties of 8 and assigned one gorilla family to visit. At 8:00 am, begin the hike uphill and downhill in search of the allocated gorilla family. The trekking time ranges from 2 hours to over 6 hours, but you are 99% sure of meeting the gorillas.

The hike through the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park also offers opportunities to see numerous birds and other primates that dwell there. Once you meet the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them. Embrace and enjoy the human-like characters of these endangered species, take as many pictures as possible, and capture live moments with these apes.

Volcanoes National Park is home to over 35% of the total gorilla population in the world. The park has 10 habituated gorilla families, which guarantee the availability of 80 gorilla permits each day. Rwanda is home to the highest number of mountain gorillas in the Virunga conservation area. Volcanoes National Park is also the most accessible gorilla national park in Africa, making it a premier gorilla safari destination, especially for short-time travellers.
