Khor Virap Pilgrimage Tour
- Connect with your tour guide at the meeting point to start the program.
- Begin by visiting the Khor Virap Pilgrimage and sacred sanctuary. Khor Virap Monastery is located near the village of Pokr Vedi, on the left side of the Araks River, on the site of the citadel of the historic city of Artashat. According to IV century historian Agatangeghos, Gregory the Illuminator, the preacher of Christianity, persecuted by Trdat III the Great, endured his sufferings for 14 years in this citadel.
- Continue to Noravank, the famous medieval monastic complex. Noravank is located in the province of Vayots Dzor (now in the Vayots Dzor region) of the Syunik province of Greater Armenia. The political role of this province in Armenian history increases significantly in the 13-14th centuries. In Syunik, during the Orbelian period, architecture, art and science flourished.
- Next, head to Areni, one of the old and famous villages of Vayots Dzor, a road junction, a military point closing the gorge entering Vayots Dzor from the Sharur valley. Winemaking is developed here.
- After that, proceed to Tatev Monastery, a medieval monastic complex in Armenia with the longest zip line. It is located in the south of Tatev village of Syunik region, on the right bank of the Vorotan River. According to legend, the monastery was named after Eustatius, a disciple of the apostle Thaddeus.
- Later, go to Khndzoresk, one of the most mysterious and impressive places in Armenia, because by visiting this place, you can see how the ancestors of Armenians lived.
- Lastly, sightsee Shaki waterfall in the Syunik region of Armenia.
