The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Harare

  • On arrival at Harare International Airport, you will be met by our tour guide and transferred to the Meikles Hotel.
  • Depending on your arrival time, you may do a city tour or visit the art galleries or wildlife orphanages.

Overnight stay at the Meikles Hotel (5*) in Harare with dinner and breakfast.

Day 02

Harare to Great Zimbabwe

  • After breakfast, depart for the Great Zimbabwe ruins for an afternoon guided tour of the monuments. Great Zimbabwe is a ruined city in the south-eastern hills of Zimbabwe near the town of Masvingo. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the country's Late Iron Age and is believed to have served as a royal palace for the local monarch. The stone city spans an area of 722 hectares and could have housed up to 18,000 people at its peak.

Dinner and overnight stay at the Lodges at The Ancient City (or similar).

Day 03

Matobo Hills Safari Introduction

  • Depart early for Matobo Hills National Park near Bulawayo, some 250 km due west of Great Zimbabwe. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive as your introduction to the African wildlife safari. Matobo National Park has a wide diversity of fauna, including 175 bird species, 88 mammals, 39 snakes, and 16 fish species. Wildlife found here includes white rhinos, sable antelopes, impala, and leopards. The game park has been restocked with white and black rhinos and has been designated as an Intensive Protection Zone for the two species, as well as hyenas, hippopotamus, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and ostriches.

Day 04

Matobo Hills Viewpoint and Rock Art

  • On this day, visit the World View point, the highest point of the Matobo Hills, and see the rock art paintings in the morning. In the afternoon, enjoy another game-viewing safari.

Day 05

Transfer to Hwange National Park

  • After breakfast, depart for Hwange National Park. You will arrive at the Hwange Safari Lodge at around 13:00, in time for lunch.
  • Join the late afternoon game drive in the Hwange Safari Lodge estate, which borders Hwange National Park. There are no fences between the two reserves.

Day 06

Full-Day Safari in Hwange

  • After breakfast, you will be picked up for a full-day safari in Hwange National Park. Mineral water, soft drinks, picnic lunch, and plenty of refreshments will be provided. The park is home to over 65,000 elephants, which dominate the water points in the afternoons during the dry season. Other animals that can be seen in the park include lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, impala, kudu, sable, eland, waterbuck, zebra, giraffe, baboon, warthog, and many more.

Day 07

Another Day in Hwange National Park

  • Enjoy another fun-filled day in the park, this time looking out for your favourite animal or bird.

Day 08

Victoria Falls and Zambezi Sunset Cruise

  • After breakfast, head to Victoria Falls in air-conditioned vans on a two-hour trip. After check-in, enjoy a guided tour of Victoria Falls. The walk along this 2 km stretch lasts about two hours. You will also be shown the enormous baobabs of Victoria Falls National Park and will pass by the curio market for gift shopping.
  • Next, transfer to the jetty for a relaxing Zambezi River sunset cruise. Relax with a sundowner and snacks as you gaze out onto the banks of the river. Have your camera ready to capture one of Africa's amazing sunsets. This is a two-hour boat trip with all drinks, snacks, and return transfers included.

Own dinner arrangements and overnight stay at the Elephant Hills Resort B/B.

Day 09

Free Day in Victoria Falls

  • This is your free day for Victoria Falls shopping and optional tours. Optional tours may include the following:
  • Helicopter flight over Victoria Falls
  • Lion walks
  • Devil's Pool swimming on the Zambia side of the falls
  • Day trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana
  • White-water rafting
  • Bungee jumping off the Zambezi Bridge
  • Visit the real and working African villages some 20 km out of town

Dinner will be at the Boma Restaurant, and overnight at the Elephant Hills Resort with breakfast.

Day 10

Departure and Optional Excursion

  • This is the last day of the tour. You may get a chance to do one more optional excursion, including walking with the lions, a short morning game drive, or early morning canoeing on the Zambezi River.
  • Departure time from the hotel will depend on your flight times. Guests are recommended to be at the airport two hours before the scheduled departure time.
