• It is said in the village today that this new village on the mountain was known as Cirkince, meaning rather ugly, to draw less attention and interest from outsiders, ensuring security. In 1924, a Population Exchange Agreement was signed between the Turkish and Greek governments, and therefore, the post-war Kirkica was revitalized.
