The itinerary

Day 01

DAY 1 Iquitos - Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

We will pick you up at your arrival at the Iquitos airport, and we will transfer by road until you reach the port of Nauta, located at 1:30 hours away from the city. We will get on the boats, and if it is rainy season, we can visit the Casual Fundo on our way down the river. 

Pacaya Samiria

Arriving at the Pacaya Samiria lodge, you will be received by a descendant of the Kukama Kukamiria culture, and enjoy a delicious natural fruit juice. The Pacaya Samiria Amazon Lodge is located in the heart of the Peruvian jungle, on the left bank of River Marañon, southwest of the city of Iquitos. The largest floodplain forest in the Amazon is located in the Pacaya Samiria reserve, hosting important species of wildlife such as the pink dolphin, cougars, monkeys, birds, a big diversity of reptiles such as alligators and turtles. Also, the rivers offer a lot of species of fishes. After lunch, we will have a fun afternoon listening the legends and stories about the mysterious Amazon rainforest. Then, we will go on a night tour around the lodge, looking for spiders, snakes, frogs and a variety of nocturnal insects. Dinner at the lodge and overnight.

Day 02

DAY 2 Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

After a well-deserved breakfast, we will start a walking tour around the jungle, to admire the amazing diversity of flora and fauna, and learn about powerful medicinal plants that abounds on this area. This place has more than 900 kind of wild flowers, and delicious tropical fruits as Camu Camu, Aguaje, Ají Charapita, etc. We will back to the lodge for a traditional local lunch. In the afternoon, we will go to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve well known as the “Jungle of Mirrors”. In 1982, this part of the Amazon jungle was declared as protected natural area in order to protect the huge variety of exotic fauna and flora, their natural resource and endangered animals, such as the black lizard and the giant otter. We are going to explore the jungle by boat to see amazing pink dolphins, and sloths. You have the opportunity to fish piranhas, and then we will back to the lodge. Dinner and overnight.

Day 03

DAY 3 Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - Iquitos

After breakfast, we will start our last day going to the Marañon River until Cocha Shiriyacu (according the season and fishing conditions). We will visit the San Jorge community and the craft center, and you will have the opportunity to acquire their beautiful handicrafts. Then, we will back to the lodge and enjoy a lunch. 

Back to Iquitos

At the indicated hour, we will reach the city of Iquitos.

  • At the time of booking, you can indicate your shoe number for the rubber boots.
  • Recommendation to choose flight schedule for entering and leaving the Lodge: First arrival flights: LIM / IQT (Take flights arriving before 09:00 am) Last departure flights: IQT / LIM (Take flights departing after 6:00 p.m.) For flights at other times, consult the cost for the additional transfer per section.
  • The vaccine for the yellow fever is optional
  • Pick up from the Iquitos airport or centrally located downtown hotels
  • The lodge uses a generator from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (220v electricity)
  • There is no Wi-Fi signal due to the location of the lodge
