5-Day Meghalaya Nature Tour from Shillong with Root Bridge Trek

• Meet your tour guide and visit Sohra, one of the most beautiful parts of Meghalaya. There are many wonderful places to see in and around Sohra, and the drive from Shillong to Sohra will take almost the entire day, even though the distance is quite short. By the end of the day, you will have visited the following places:
  • Elephant Falls: a two-tier waterfall in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. The mountain stream descends through two successive falls set in dells of fern-covered rocks.
  • Mawphlang Sacred Grove: one of the biggest sacred groves in Meghalaya. It is a well-preserved forest protected by the local community. Nothing can be taken out of the forest, as it is believed to be protected by the local deities, U Ryngkew U Basa.
  • Mawkdok Dympep Valley Viewpoint: situated very close to the Sohra tourist circuit, it is one of the famous places in Cherrapunjee to enjoy the natural beauty.
  • Arwah Caves: located 3.5 km from Cherrapunji Bus Stand, this vast cave lies in the Khliehshnong area of Cherrapunji in Meghalaya.
  • Nohkalikai Falls: the tallest plunge waterfall in India, with a height of 340 metres. The waterfall is located in Meghalaya, near Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth.

For the night, check in to your resort or homestay.

• Today will be one of the most interesting days of your Meghalaya trip. You will walk to the bio-engineering marvel known as the living root bridge, or Jingkieng Nongriat, the double-decker living root bridge. The trek starts from a village named Tyrna and takes you through quaint villages, natural turquoise pools, and gorgeous vegetation. At a brisk pace, it will take you more than an hour to reach the double-decker living root bridge.
• Once there, spend your time lazing around at the natural pool near the root bridge. Explore the area at your own pace and then begin your walk back.
• Remember that lunch in Nongriat will have to be either snacks and energy bars that you carry with you or simple noodles or local food available there.
• Return to spend the evening at a homestay in Nongriat.

• After breakfast, start early in the morning for the trek to Rainbow Falls, climbing through the forest for about an hour and then returning to the natural blue swimming pool.
• Head back to the homestay before trekking back to Sohra Rest.

• Start at leisure today and visit Mawlynnong Village after breakfast. Famously known as Asia's cleanest village, Mawlynnong is a quaint village tucked on a small hill overlooking Bangladesh.
• Before heading there, take a detour towards the India-Bangladesh border at Dawki.
• Go boating on the transparent waters of the Umngkot River and have your lunch on a river island. Please note that boating is not included.
• From there, visit the Tamabil border post before heading back to Mawlynnong village for the night.

• Visit Don Bosco Museum, Umiam Lake, and Laitlum Canyon.
• Take in the beautiful Shillong Peak views of Shillong city.
