Cape Point Scenic Drive, Wildlife and Coastal Highlights

  • We will leave the city and travel south, passing interesting places such as the Cape Town University top campus and the State President's residence, all under the backbone of the Table Mountain range. Pass exclusive suburbs and wine areas.
  • Our first stop is above Muizenberg Beach. Come and find out what the shark spotters do and what Guinness World Record is held from here.
  • We continue along the lovely Boyes Drive, through Kalk Bay's fishing and art community, to the naval suburb of Simon's Town. You could spend a whole day in Kalk Bay. Here, you will meet a famous dog and hear his fascinating story. See all the naval icons and the beautiful old architecture of the buildings and churches.
  • Visit the cutest penguins in their black and white suits.
  • Then, we continue along the coast with a quick stop at Smitswinkel. Depending on the weather and the tides, we will decide what to do first or last in the Cape Point Nature Reserve. We have 3 hours to explore it at your leisure.
  • We will climb to the top of the lighthouse to see the views from up there. At the halfway point is a very interesting gift shop with a good history of all the shipwrecks.
  • We will go to the Cape of Good Hope point, which is where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet.
  • Then we can either take a walk on the wild side to see amazing sea-pool life under the water - you do not have to swim. This is a great opportunity to stretch your legs and have a bit of fresh air.
  • Or we can take one of the side drives to the sea and look for more animals. The animals likely to be seen in the park are baboons, ostriches, dassies (rock hyrax), tortoises, eland, lizards, zebra, and other antelope. The flora in the park is the heart of the Fynbos Kingdom. You will see restios, protea, paper flowers, pincushions, and a host of other flora.
  • Lunch
    • We have a choice of 3 venues depending on diets. All are within 30 minutes of the entrance to the park. We will decide in the morning on the most suitable option for all concerned.
  • In Noordhoek, we will see llamas before we stop at a lookout point to look over the beautiful Noordhoek Beach.
  • Then, we will proceed onto the most scenic drive in the whole of the Western Cape, with very sheer cliffs and drops on either side.
  • We stop at the top again for a chance to take photos of both sides of Chapman's Peak Drive. Look out towards Hout Bay and the Sentinel guarding the entrance to Hout Bay.
  • Depending on the weather and the time, we will take a boat ride out to Seal Island if the boats are still running. Here, we hover between two islands filled with seals. You get an up-close view of the seals, even diving under the boat. It is about 10 minutes each way.
  • Next, we continue along the coast on the other side of the backbone of the Table Mountain range.
  • Return to the city centre and your hotel. We might be lucky enough to catch a glorious sunset on the way.
