Day 01

Windhoek to Sesriem via Spreetshoogte Pass

  • Meet your tour guide at your accommodation or at the airport in Windhoek and drive to Sesriem.
  • Travel through Spreetshoogte Pass, a mountain pass in central Namibia that connects the Namib Desert with the Khomas Highland by crossing the Great Escarpment, a major geological feature of much of the southern African continent.
  • Make a quick stop at Solitaire for lunch. Solitaire consists of a filling station, a shop, a chapel, and a bakery with a café. The café is well known for its apple cake, arguably "the best in the whole of Namibia". A lodge and a campsite complete Solitaire.
  • Arrive at the lodge in Sesriem in the late afternoon.

Day 02

Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, Dune 45 and Sesriem Canyon

  • Wake up early and drive to Sossusvlei, a salt and clay pan surrounded by high red dunes in the southern part of the Namib Desert, within Namib-Naukluft National Park. The name "Sossusvlei" is often used in a broader sense to refer to the surrounding area, one of Namibia's major visitor attractions.
  • Visit Deadvlei, a white clay pan located near the more famous salt pan of Sossusvlei inside Namib-Naukluft Park in Namibia. Also written DeadVlei or Dead Vlei, its name means "dead marsh".
  • Continue to Dune 45, a star dune in the Sossusvlei area of the Namib Desert. Its name comes from the fact that it stands at the 45th kilometre of the road connecting the Sesriem gate and Sossusvlei.
  • Have lunch at a local restaurant at Sesriem Gate.
  • Explore Sesriem Canyon. The canyon dates back 2-4 million years, when continental upheaval created most of the westward-flowing rivers in the Namib Desert region.
  • Drive back to the lodge and spend the rest of the evening at leisure.
