Udaipur to Chittorgarh Fort Excursion
- Meet your tour guide in the morning in Udaipur and begin the 2-hour journey to Chittorgarh Fort, the largest fort in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Explore Chittorgarh Fort, the capital of Mewar, which spreads across a 180-metre-high hill over an area of 280 hectares above the plains of the valley drained by the Berach River. The fort features several historical palaces, gates, a temple, and two prominent commemorative towers. Legend says that Alauddin Khilji, who was the first to sack Chittor, was so captivated by the regal beauty of Rani Padmini that he was overcome by a desire to possess her. But the noble queen preferred death over dishonour and committed Jauhar (mass self-immolation).
- Visit the 9-metre-wide Vijaya Stambha, or Tower of Victory, located within Chittor Fort. The tower was constructed by Rana Kumbha, the Mewar king, in 1448 to commemorate his victory over Mahmud Khilji and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
- Continue to Kirti Stambha, or Tower of Fame, another important feature of Chittor Fort. This Solanki-style architectural tower is 22 metres long and was established by the first Jain Tirthankar.
- See Padmini Palace, the home of Rani Padmini, located near Chittorgarh Fort. You can also visit Rana Kumbha Palace, situated inside Chittorgarh Fort and associated with the famous bhakti poetess Meerabai.
- After the visit, get dropped off at your place in Udaipur.
