Day 01
Kumbhalgarh Fort and Ranakpur Jain Temple Excursion
- Meet the tour guide and begin the tour in the first half of the day. Leave Udaipur and depart for Kumbhalgarh Fort.
- Take a 2-hour drive to Kumbhalgarh Fort. The fort has made its mark in history as the second largest wall after the Great Wall of China. This mighty fort in Rajasthan stands 3,600 ft tall, and its 38 km-long wall surrounds the area of Udaipur. It is believed to have been built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. The fort has also been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the group Hill Forts of Rajasthan. It is strategically located on the western Aravalli hills. The fort has seven fortified gateways and several Jain temples within it. Lakhola Tank, constructed by Rana Lakha, is the most famous tank inside the fort. The presence of several Hindu and Jain temples indicates the religious tolerance of the rulers and how they patronized the Jains and encouraged their culture in the kingdom.
- Then head to Ranakpur Jain Temple, also known as Chaturmukha Dharana Vihara, which is dedicated to Tirthankara Rishabhanatha. The temple is located in the village of Ranakpur near Sadri town in the Pali district of Rajasthan. Darna Shah, a local Jain businessperson, began constructing the temple in the 15th century following a divine vision. According to Jain cosmology, the temple honours Adinath, the first Tirthankar of the present half-cycle (avasarpiṇī). Ranakpur Temple is one of the largest and most important temples in Jain culture. The campus includes various temples such as the Chaumukha Temple, Surya Temple, Suparshvanatha Temple, and Amba Temple.
