Be part of the Cure Salée Festival in northern Niger, usually announced in the third week of September. Enjoy dancing, beauty pageants, and music over three days as thousands gather from neighbouring countries such as Nigeria, Benin, and Libya. As the dry season begins, new friendships are made and marriages take place while cultural traditions are proudly displayed. Although this festival is one of the most popular and unique in Africa, it remains a hidden gem for the rest of the world.

The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Niamey

Welcome to Niger! Upon arrival in Niamey, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel for check-in and rest.

Accommodation at Grand Hotel or similar.

Dinner is not included.

Day 02

Flight to Agadez and Cattle Market Visit

Transfer to the airport for your flight from Niamey to Agadez at approximately 6 AM. Upon arrival at around 2:30 PM, you will be transferred to the hotel for check-in.
Later this afternoon, visit the cattle market, a gathering point for Tuaregs and a place of barter exchange.

Return to the hotel for dinner at the restaurant.

Breakfast and lunch are included today. Dinner is excluded.

Day 03

UNESCO Agadez City Tour

Travel to the ancient city of Agadez, a classified UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the city centre and its market.
Visit the sultanate and the marché artisanal. Have lunch, and later this afternoon transfer to the hotel for the evening.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included today.

Day 04

Journey to Abalak and Bivouac Setup

Depart from the hotel in the morning for Abalak, a meeting area for nomads and their herds of cattle.
Stop at Abalak, the last big city before the Peulhs Gerewol camp site.
Set up the bivouac and prepare dinner.

Breakfast, lunch (picnic), and dinner are included today.

Day 05

Gerewol Festival Immersion Begins

Today marks the start of the festival. Over the next couple of days, fully immerse yourself in the ceremony with dance, songs, visits to different camps, and much more. Be among the nomadic people who have travelled from afar and experience ancient traditions and rituals.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Day 06

From the Savannah of Abalak to Tahoua

Depart from the ceremonial grounds this morning and make your way to Tahoua. Along the route, see some nomadic Tuareg camps.

Overnight at Tarka Hotel in Tahoua. Half board.

Day 07

Yama Mosques and Bori Dance in Dogondoutchi

Depart Tahoua and stop at Yama Hausa Village, where you will notice Sudanese architecture and several mosques.
From here, head to Dogondoutchi to attend the dance of possession (Bori).

Overnight at the Magama Hostel. Half board.

Day 08

Djermakoye Palace, Giraffes, and Return to Niamey

Depart Dogondoutchi via Dosso, stopping along the way at Djermakoye Palace.
From here, travel towards Kouré to experience the last herds of giraffes living free in West Africa.
Enjoy a picnic along the way before returning to Niamey. Upon arrival in Niamey, transfer to the hotel to freshen up.
End your tour with a transfer to the airport for your international flight out.
