Discover one of Ushuaia’s lesser-visited natural landscapes on this full-day trekking adventure to Turquoise Lagoon and Mount Carbajal. Starting from Tierra Mayor Valley, the route leads through sub-Antarctic forest, past ancient lenga trees, and up a demanding trail rewarded with sweeping views over the surrounding valleys and mountains.

Reach the striking glacial waters of Turquoise Lagoon, then continue the ascent along a rocky ridge to the summit area of Mount Carbajal. Along the way, your guide shares the story of the landscape shaped by ancient glaciers, with views stretching toward the Beagle Channel. A lunch box, snacks, water, and hotel pickup and drop-off from selected hotels are included.

At about 10:15 am we arrive at the Turquoise lagoon, which rewards us with its wonderful colour, typical of glacial origins lagoons.

The itinerary

Day 01

Tierra Mayor Valley

The tour begins from the hotel, starting at 8:00 am, with a few minutes trip to Tierra Mayor Valley, where we arrive at 08:30 am to begin an intense hike. The first part of the walk consist of a slope trail with a pronounced inclination, in which the hundred-year-old lengas of the sub-antartic forest accompanies the walker. After 45 or 60 minutes (09:30 am) of demanding trek, the forest is left behind and, from the top, you begin to enjoy incredible views.

Turquoise lagoon

At about 10:15 am we arrive at the Turquoise lagoon, which rewards us with its wonderful colour, typical of glacial origins lagoons.

Mount Carbajal

We continue climbing up a rocky ledge, to reach the top of Mount Carbajal, near noon. From there you can see the trail of the glaciers, which during the last glaciations descended towards the Beagle Channel crossing the valleys Tierra Mayor and Carbajal, forming this landscape. We will take our lunch while enjoying the view and at 1 pm we will start the return to our vehicle on the base. At about 3:30 pm, you will return to your hotel.
