The itinerary

1
Day 01

Bucharest, Targoviste, Poienari and the Transfagarasan

  • Meet the guide in central Bucharest or at your hotel at around 8 o'clock. The tour leader will have a sign with the company logo and the names of all passengers attending the tour. The guide can also be identified by the T-shirt bearing the company name.
  • Prepare a packed lunch for today, then travel to Targoviste, approximately 1.5 hours away, and enjoy your visit to the Princely Court complex for around 2 hours. Admission is included.
  • After another 2.5 hours, arrive at the Poienari Citadel, where you will have enough time to climb up and down and take photos.
  • From the citadel, travel to the Vidraru Dam and continue on the Transfagarasan highway to cross the mountains and reach Transylvania.

Stop for the night at the 3-star homestay Moara de Piatră hotel, or similar, in Cârța village and enjoy a Romanian home-cooked dinner at the homestay.

Day 02

Cârța to Sighișoara and Brașov

  • Start the next day with a hearty breakfast, which is included, and travel to Sighisoara, around 2 hours away by road.
  • Your guide will lead a 1.5-hour walking tour of Sighisoara, during which you will discover the highlights of this medieval city.
  • Enjoy a traditional lunch at Casa Dracul restaurant, which is included, then travel to Brasov, around a 2-hour drive away.
  • Stop for the night at Casa Wagner in Brașov, a 3-star hotel, or similar. You will have a free evening, so feel free to stroll through the city center and have dinner at a restaurant of your choice.

Day 03

Brașov, Bran Castle and Snagov Monastery

  • On the last day, after breakfast, which is included, join the guide for a tour of Brasov, then travel by car for around 30 minutes to reach Bran Castle.
  • Spend around 3.5 hours in Bran village, visit the castle for about 2 hours, shop, and have lunch.
  • Travel from Bran to Snagov, around a 3.5-hour drive, and visit the peaceful Snagov Monastery.
  • Return to Bucharest city center, about 1 hour away, or directly to your hotel at the end of the tour.

Know before you go

  • The tour is focused on the history of Vlad the Impaler, also known as Dracula.
  • We will have to climb the 1480 steps to Poienari Fortress, but there will be plenty of time to do this.
  • The Transfagarasan highway can be closed without prior notice due to bad weather conditions. In this case, we will take an alternative route to Sighisoara.
