Gokyo Valley Trek is a fine alternative to the Everest Base Camp Trek, climbing the valley to the west of Everest to the village of Gokyo and its five sacred lakes beside the Ngozumpa Glacier. The trail follows the Dudhkoshi River to its source - a series of emerald green lakes - and reaches the Sherpa village of Gokyo beside the largest of them. From here, the climb to Gokyo Ri (5360m) rewards you with a heart-stopping view over Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Cholatse and Taboche. Like Kala Patthar on the Everest Base Camp Trek, Gokyo Ri is an epic vantage point with an extraordinary view over Everest.
