Day 01
Materuni Coffee Experience and Waterfall Hike
- Meet the tour guide at 8 am and begin the day with a short drive up the slopes of Kilimanjaro to the village of Materuni, approximately 1,800 m above sea level.
- Explore this lush rainforest region, famous for producing some of the best coffee in East Africa.
- Visit a small coffee farm and learn how the coffee is grown, harvested, and processed locally. Later, try the techniques of processing, roasting, and preparing a fresh cup of coffee in the local Chagga way.
- Go for a 45-minute hike through the hills and valleys en route to Materuni Waterfall. Along the way, the guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine.
- Observe the daily lives of the Chagga tribe and learn more about their local culture.
- Explore the area around the pristine waterfall and capture the verdant valley, with cliffs towering up to 200 ft overhead.
- Stop for a quick lunch and enjoy swimming in the chill mountain waters.
- Return to the car and drive back to Moshi.
