Xunantunich, Cave Tubing, and Ziplining Adventure
- Start the journey by road in an air-conditioned vehicle to Xunantunich. This national treasure fills its visitors with a sense of time travel. Sitting close to Belize's western border, it is a must-visit site. Local souvenirs, hammocks, and blankets are available from the many vendors waiting alongside the river at the entrance to the hand-cranked ferry that has carried many thousands to and from the calm beauty of this Maya temple.
- Enjoy the panoramic views of the Cayo District and nearby Guatemala from atop 'El Castillo'.
- Head off to Jaguar Paw for cave tubing and ziplining.
- Arrive at the outpost and meet the tour guides, who will issue inflatable tubes, headlamps, and life vests. Listen to a basic orientation and safety briefing before setting off on a 30-minute hike, including wading through a few knee-deep water streams.
- Once at the entrance of the cave system, see intricate crystalline formations lining the cave, with a majestic rise and fall of stalagmites and stalactites that add to the serene richness and grandiose of Xibalba, as it's known.
- After exiting the cave, emerge into the sunlight and free-float downstream, ushered by the gentle current and little rapids, to the harmony of birds and natural wildlife, which leads back to where the tour started.
- Walk over to the ziplining equipment area, where the expert guides will help fit the required equipment.
- Make your way to the first platform, where an important safety briefing will follow, covering braking technique, balancing, and cable safety.
- Push off from the wooden platform and zip along the aerial cable at canopy level, where a guide will be waiting at the next platform. There are a total of 7 lines, and the whole adventure lasts about 50 minutes.
