Explore the recent lava fields near Reykjavík on a guided hike through Iceland's stark volcanic landscape. This 8-hour private tour takes you to the eruption area shaped by two recent events: the first began on 19 March 2021 and lasted about six months, while the second took place in August 2022 and lasted only a short time. There is no eruption at the moment, so no glowing or flowing lava can be seen, but the fresh lava fields remain a remarkable sight.

Hike Through the Recent Lava Fields

  • Meet your tour representative, who will pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavík to begin the itinerary.
  • Proceed with a guided transfer to the start of the trail. Hike for 4-5 hours in the new lava field and eruption area. You will follow stark trails to see the recent lava field created by two recent eruptions. The first eruption occurred on 19 March 2021 and finished six months later. In August 2022, a small eruption on the same mountain lasted only one week.
  • Return to Reykjavík and head to your accommodation for drop-off at the end of the tour.
