Explore Zambia over 13 days through three of the country's premier wildlife destinations: Lower Zambezi National Park, Kafue National Park, and South Luangwa National Park. This safari combines game cruises, canoe and boat activities, game drives, and nature walks across some of Zambia's best parks, including the world-famous Busanga Plains. Travel through beautiful African wilderness, stay in lodges and camps, and look out for the famous "Big 5" wild animals along the way.

See the Zambezi River on one side and the escarpment on the other, which forms a wonderful backdrop for game viewing.

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Lusaka

  • Arrive in Lusaka, the capital city and business centre of Zambia. Lusaka is one of Africa's most delightful cities. It is a metropolitan city that offers a traditional and hearty Zambian welcome to all visitors.
  • Meet at Lusaka (Kenneth Kaunda) International Airport with our greeters and company driver.
  • Transfer to Chamba Valley Exotic Hotel, on the outskirts of Lusaka, for an overnight stay.
  • Visit Lusaka city shopping malls to buy personal items for use whilst in Lower Zambezi National Park.
  • Enjoy fresh, mouthwatering Zambian and multi-cuisine dishes in the restaurant before retiring to bed.

Day 02

Journey to Lower Zambezi

  • Rise early in the morning for breakfast.
  • Drive through Lusaka city and down the escarpment to the Zambezi Valley.
  • Travel by road from Lusaka to Chirundu (D152/RD491, about 115 km). The D152/RD491 is an important commercial artery route that crosses the Zambian border and continues to Harare, Zimbabwe, so it is generally kept in good repair condition.
  • Mineral water will be served during the tour. Lunch and refreshments are provided on board en route to Lower Zambezi.
  • About 200-300 m from the Chirundu border, the road to the Lower Zambezi branches east from the main road.
  • Head to Mvuu campsite in the game management area, covering a distance of 50 km for an exciting lodging excursion in the Chiawa Game Management Area.
  • Arrive at the Lower Zambezi Game Management Area (GMA).

Check in at Mvuu Lodge and campsite, or a similar accommodation facility. At Mvuu, you will live close to nature.

Day 03

Game Viewing in Lower Zambezi

  • 05:10 am: Wake up and thereafter take a bath.
  • 05:20 am to 05:45 am: Have breakfast.
  • 05:45 am to 05:55 am: Receive a short briefing by the Tour Director on pertinent facts such as personal safety, required eco-tour practices, and important country information and social etiquette.
  • 06:00 am: Leave for a full-day game cruise in the Lower Zambezi area.
  • See the Zambezi River on one side and the escarpment on the other, which forms a wonderful backdrop for game viewing.
  • Enjoy the morning and afternoon scheduled game activities explored by both canoe or boat and game drive vehicle.

Day 04

More Wildlife Activities in Lower Zambezi

  • Enjoy more game drives and other activities in the Game Management Area and Game Park.

Alternative activities may be proposed for this particular day, provided they are aligned with and conform to what is contained and outlined in this Nyati safari tour program.

Day 05

Return to Lusaka and Continue to Kafue

  • Drive through the Zambezi escarpment and back to Lusaka.
  • Do some shopping for the next days in the Kafue wilderness.
  • Drive on the M9 Lusaka-Mumbwa highway road to Kafue National Park.
  • Stay in safari tents at Roy's Camp, off the Hook Bridge.

Day 06

Game Drives in Kafue National Park

  • Spend the day doing game drives in the central part of Kafue National Park, around Chunga Game Management Area (GMA).
  • Kafue National Park is well known for its variety of different species of antelopes. Leopards and prides of lions are also regularly seen in this area.
  • After touring around Chunga Game Management Area, return to Roy's Camp and spend another night there.

Day 07

Visit Busanga Plains

  • Spend the day at Busanga Plains, Kafue National Park.
  • Enjoy activities during the day.

Day 08

Explore Busanga Plains

  • Spend the day at Busanga Plains, Kafue National Park.
  • Enjoy activities during the day.

Day 09

Return to Lusaka from Kafue

  • Leave the Busanga Plains.
  • Cross through Kafue National Park on your last game drive.
  • Head back to Hook Bridge before joining the M9 highway road and travelling back to Lusaka on the same day.
  • Arrive in Lusaka.

Check in and stay at StayEasy Hotel (sharing), or a similar accommodation facility, located in a central part of Lusaka, a 4-minute walk to Levy Mwanawasa Shopping Mall.

Day 10

Fly to South Luangwa National Park

  • Transfer to Lusaka International Airport.
  • Catch a domestic flight to Mfuwe International Airport (not included in this package rate and must be settled separately).
  • Arrive at Mfuwe Airport and meet the representative from Royal Jacob South Luangwa Lodge.

Royal Jacob South Luangwa Lodge is situated just outside South Luangwa National Park in the Game Management Area (GMA).

Explore South Luangwa

  • Visit South Luangwa National Park, a world-renowned wildlife haven that will be a highlight of your safari trip to Zambia.

Activities: game drives or game walks in the park.

  • Enjoy game drives in the park or nature walks.

Day 13

Departure from Mfuwe

  • After breakfast, transfer to Mfuwe Airport for the departure flight to Lusaka International Airport to connect with your international flight back home.

What to bring

  • A few pairs of khaki shorts or light trousers, light and portable long-sleeve shirts, swimming costumes, sandals, thick trousers, and a jacket for cooler evenings. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunblock are generally enough to protect you from the scorching African sun.
  • Camera: Kindly bring a good SLR with different lenses, especially a super-telephoto zoom lens, for example a 200-600 mm Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500 mm f/5.6E ED VR Super Telephoto Zoom. Extra memory cards are a must - one can never take enough photos. Other equipment to bring includes the camera charger (240v), enough film, extenders, as well as adequate batteries, because you may not have the opportunity to shop for some time within the wild bush.

    • Zambia is a high-malaria-risk country throughout the whole nation, including urban areas. The highest risk of infection is in the rainy season, from November to May. Persons visiting Victoria Falls must take malaria suppressive medication. In addition to the suggested antimalarial medication, use a mosquito bed net and effective repellents to avoid the bite of the nocturnal Anopheles mosquito whilst on tour in Zambia.
    • Before you travel to Zambia, kindly consult your local physician or travel health clinic for the prophylactic malaria regimen most appropriate to your needs to protect you from getting malaria whilst visiting Zambia.
