Explore Belgrade, the capital of the southeast European country of Serbia. Its most significant landmark is the Belgrade Fortress, an imposing fortress at the Danube and the Sava rivers' confluence. Belgrade walking tour
Start from Republic Square, one of the central city squares. It was shaped in the 19th century as well as almost the whole senior part of the city. The square area was inhabited in Roman times, and today, this is a meeting point of many Belgraders.
From the square, we exit at Knez Mihajlova street. It is approx. 800 m long pedestrian zone, one of the most crowded and visited Belgrade street. It is one of the city landmarks and a must-see tourist attraction.
Walk to Kosancicev Venac. This part of Belgrade was continuously inhabited from the beginning of the AD. Here are the oldest trails of medieval Serbian settlement. In this area are some fascinating buildings: Question mark tavern, Orthodox Cathedral, Princess Ljubica's Residence, Patriarchate, the remains of National Library, bombed in 1941. etc.
Visit Belgrade fortress, built on the confluence of the Sava and the Danube river. The first fortress in this area was built during the Romans. After the Empire's fall, it was conquered by various nations: Huns, Hungarians, Bulgarians, Serbs, Turks, Austrians etc. Fortress experienced numerous destructions and reconstructions.
