The itinerary

Day 01

Durmitor National Park, Lakes, and Tara Canyon

Meet in the Kotor or Tivat area.
Stop at a viewpoint above Kotor Bay, also called the "southernmost fjord in Europe".
Drive to Piva Lake, surrounded by high cliffs and spectacular turquoise water, and visit a viewpoint above the lake.
Take the panoramic road called the "Durmitor Ring," circling around the highest peaks of Durmitor Mountain with fairytale scenery all around.
Visit Devil's Lake, Fish Lake, and a Greek medieval graveyard.
Visit Black Lake and hike around it (optional).
Stop for lunch and try traditional farmer's mountain food.
Visit Tara Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe.
Return to Kotor or Tivat and end the tour.

Know before you go

Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO area, is also known as the "mountain eyes mountain" because it has 18 glacial lakes with fresh water.
This is a place that brings me back to my childhood, since people there still live the traditional mountain farmer and cattle breeder lifestyle, as our ancestors used to live in the past.
We will go inside the heart of the mountain and do the Durmitor Ring panoramic ride, where we pass by the highest peaks, lakes, green fields with shepherds (we can stop and have a chat with them), traditional farmer houses, and make many photo stops in this breathtaking fairy-tale landscape.
We visit the most beautiful lakes in the area (Piva Lake, Black Lake, Devil's Lake, Fish Lake) and hike around some of them.
Tara Canyon is the deepest canyon in Europe and the second deepest in the world. Protected by UNESCO, it is a 1333 m (4373 ft) deep canyon surrounded by high mountains, with caves, cascades, and rich wildlife.
