Day 01

Split Highlights and Diocletian's Palace Walk

  • Meet your tour guide on the Riva Promenade, the waterfront in Split city centre, to begin the tour. Today, this promenade is the living room of Split and the city's most popular and important public place.
  • Walk to the Brass Gate, one of the entrances to Diocletian's Palace, and enter the palace substructures. These substructures represent one of the world's best-preserved ancient complexes of their kind.
  • Continue to Peristil Square, the central square of the palace.
  • See the Vestibul and the Cathedral of St Domnius.
  • Continue along Cardo Street to the Golden Gate, the most important entrance to the palace and the gate through which Emperor Diocletian entered the palace in the year 305.
  • Finish the tour next to the statue of Gregory of Nin. This 8.5-metre (28 ft) tall and 13-ton statue by Ivan Meštrović is one of the town's most visited sights.
