The 6-day Kilimanjaro Marangu Route, known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular and accessible ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Itinerary

DAY DAY 1: MARANGU GATE (1,870M) – MANDARA HUT (2,700M)

DAY 1: MARANGU GATE (1,870M) – MANDARA HUT (2,700M)
After registration at Marangu Gate, begin your Kilimanjaro climb through lush rainforest. Keep an eye out for monkeys and exotic birds. Trek for 4–5 hours to Mandara Hut. Dinner and overnight at the hut.
DAY 2: MANDARA HUT – HOROMBO HUT (3,720M)

Leave the forest behind and enter moorland terrain with stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. The hike takes 5–6 hours. Arrive at Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3: HOROMBO HUT – ACCLIMATIZATION DAY

Spend an extra day at Horombo Hut to improve acclimatization and increase summit success. Optional short hike towards Zebra Rocks. Return to Horombo for rest, meals, and overnight.
DAY 4: HOROMBO HUT – KIBO HUT (4,700M)

Trek through alpine desert with incredible views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The hike takes 5–6 hours. Arrive at Kibo Hut, rest, and prepare for the summit attempt.
DAY 5: KIBO HUT – UHURU PEAK (5,895M) – HOROMBO HUT

Start your summit push around midnight. Reach Gilman’s Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend back to Horombo Hut for overnight. This is the longest and most challenging day.
DAY 6: HOROMBO HUT – MARANGU GATE

Descend through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.

Know Before You Go

Marangu Route is the most popular, least difficult and the shortest way to Uhuru Peak. This route is also called the Tourist Route or the Coca Cola Route. 70% of all climbers choose this route, because most of the route consists of easy hiking. This route is fairly easy but the final part to the summit is still difficult. Although this rout is the easiest, it has the highest failure rate due to bad preparation. It is advised to take this route seriously enough, to be well organized and to take all possible safety measures.

The Marangu route is referred as the coca-cola route.This is the only route which uses the same path to and fro. Marangu route is the most crowded route to Kilimanjaro. The route is comfortable walking path and an easy route to climb.

Here the camping is not allowed but you can stay in a hut accommodation which is offered. A climb in Marangu route is comparatively cheap and can be climbed in 5 days.

It is a route with serious climb and low success rate. Because, the climbers are not prepared at the first point. A 5 day climb does not allow proper acclimatization. Duration of the route is 5 days, acclimatization can be added.
