Bucharest to Brașov and Transylvania's Castles

Starting in the morning from Bucharest, head north towards the Prahova Valley and further into Transylvania, in Brașov County. It is a road that many Bucharestians use to reach the closest mountain retreats, where they spend their weekends or relaxing vacations. But this road also takes us to the crown jewel of our mountains - a diamond hidden in plain sight that delights those who know where to find it.

Visit the charming Peles Castle, the Royal Family's summer residence, now open to the public. It offers a sense of the true nobility of heart and mind, as it stands as a work of love between King Carol I of Romania and Queen Elizabeth of Romania. It is yours to discover, and two smaller castles keep it company nearby: Pelișor and Foișor.

Continue through the Carpathian Mountains to Romania's world-renowned top attraction, Bran Castle. We have Bram Stoker to thank for making this guardian of Transylvania a star attraction for everyone coming to Romania, as Dracula's story has created lasting waves of interest and helped place Romania on the map of international tourism. We take pride in it because it reveals a history far more elaborate than most people imagine, standing as proof of our troubled past and the trials and tribulations our ancestors endured.

Leaving Bran, pass by another guardian that protected the people in times of war and attack: the Peasants' Fortress, or Râșnov Fortress, named after the town below it. It is impressive and has been renovated, with further restoration work still underway.

Follow the road through small Transylvanian towns that still reflect their former Saxon patronage.

Arrive in the busy City of the Crown, Kronstadt - Brașov - one of the Seven Cities of Transylvania, Siebenbürgen. Rich both historically and culturally, this city stands as proof of continuous rebirth and development, from its first settlers to the modern times we live in today. It is a canvas begun many centuries ago - in fact, millennia - and it continues to gain new layers that enrich both locals and guests. Your guide will mention three key elements: the Black Church, Saint Nicholas Church, and the City Council. Much more awaits your curiosity, including Catherine's Gate, the Synagogue of Brașov, the City Council Square, Rope Street, the Black Tower, and the Schei Gate.

As with every grand adventure, this one must also come to an end. Leave the beautiful castles, mountains, delightful cuisine, and people behind as you head back to Bucharest. Truly a day to cherish, for you have been to the heart of Dracula's lair, visited the Royal Eagle's Nest, and joined the people of Brașov in discovering their incredible city.
