The itinerary

1
Day 01

Famagusta and St. Barnabas Monastery

  • Meet your tour guide at the airport in Ercan or Larnaca and travel from Kyrenia to the east of the island.

  • Make your first stop at St. Barnabas Monastery. Barnabas is one of the saints who began spreading Christianity with St. Paul. You will visit his tomb and the monastery with its icons.

  • Enjoy a swim break, if it is not winter, in the clear waters of the blue Mediterranean Sea. Otherwise, more time will be spent in the medieval city of Famagusta.

Day 02

Kyrenia Castles, Abbey and Harbour

  • Visit the sights of Kyrenia, beginning with St. Hilarion Castle. It is said that Walt Disney's production of "Snow White and 7 Dwarfs" was inspired by this castle.

  • Continue to your second stop at Bellapais Monastery. This building is a masterpiece of Gothic art and considered the most beautiful one in the Near East.

  • Savour your lunch (extra) at a restaurant facing the historical abbey. At the restaurant, you can also taste a Turkish dessert.

  • Next, visit Kyrenia Castle. This castle was built during the Byzantine period in 4 AD because of Arab attacks.

  • See why the Ship Wreck Museum is a place to visit. The museum exhibits date back 2,320 years and include the ship's final cargo, amphoras, olive seeds, fig seeds, almond seeds, and many other items found in the ship outside Kyrenia harbour by a Greek Cypriot sponge diver.

  • End your day at Kyrenia Harbor. This is a relaxing tour where you can enjoy both the history and the scenery.

Day 03

Walled Nicosia and Ledra Street

  • Learn about Paphos Gate, one of the gates built during the Lusignan period to enter the walled city of Nicosia after it became the capital of the island. There were three gates used to enter the city, and you will visit two of them.

  • Start your tour from there and walk to the Ledra Street crossing, passing historical old houses built during the Ottoman period.

  • Cross the border to see St. Sophia Cathedral, Bedesten, Buyuk Han, the Closed Market, Arasta, Samanbahce Houses, and the second gate of the walled city of Nicosia, known as Kyrenia Gate. As you visit these historical sights, you will have time to take photos and hear about the history of the Byzantine, Lusignan, Venetian, Ottoman, and English periods.

  • Enjoy free time for lunch and shopping.

  • At the end of the tour, transfer to the airport for departure.
