Day 01

Nairobi to Masai Mara via the Great Rift Valley

  • 08:00 hrs: Get picked up from your Nairobi hotel and/or residence for the safari briefing.

  • Proceed on the journey to the Masai Mara, driving through Kenya's agriculturally rich central highlands with a stopover at the escarpment to view the magnificent East African Great Rift Valley.

  • Continue to the escarpment floor and onward to the Masai Mara, arriving in time for lunch.

  • Embark on an afternoon game-viewing drive in search of animals.

Dinner and overnight at the tented camp or selected lodge.

2
Day 02

Full-Day Wildlife Viewing in Masai Mara

  • Today, you can explore the larger and more extensive part of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.

  • An early morning breakfast will be served, or tea/coffee will be provided with a full breakfast in mid-morning.

  • Take a short break for your rare bush breakfast.

  • Proceed through the Masai Mara in search of wild game in the vastness of this wildlife haven, a place renowned for its abundance of lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalos, and zebras. At the same time, antelopes, warthogs, and wildebeests form formidable numbers. Masai Mara has the highest concentration of wildlife per square kilometre of any other park in the region.

  • Ask about an optional local Masai village visit, which can be arranged later or the following day, time permitting.

All meals and overnight at the tented camp, lodge, or similar.

Meals plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

3
Day 03

Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru with Cultural Encounters

  • Proceed after breakfast for an early morning game drive as you exit Mara, or for a cultural experience.

  • Embark on a short hike with the Masai moran (warriors), among other activities with the Masai community, as you depart for Lake Nakuru National Park. Enjoy brief stopovers along the scenic Great Rift Valley, arriving in time for dinner and overnight.

Meals plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

4
Day 04

Lake Nakuru Game Drive and Onward to Lake Naivasha

  • Eat an early breakfast.

  • Proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park.

  • Go on a game drive until 1600 hrs, with a picnic lunch served at one of the magnificent cliffs, an excellent location from which to watch the park and its environs. The lake hosts the largest concentration of flamingoes, which canopy the edge of this alkaline Rift Valley lake. The park also hosts lions, leopards, giraffes, warthogs, and more. There is also a rhino sanctuary, so rhino sightings are very high.

  • Drive south in the afternoon along this scenic valley to Lake Naivasha.

  • Arrive at sundown in the lakeside town, where there are many activities to undertake, such as joining local fishermen for boat rides, sport fishing, or a visit to the flower farm, which is one of the major economic activities in this area.

Dinner and overnight at a selected budget hotel, lodge, or tented camp.

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

5
Day 05

Lake Naivasha, Crater Lake, and Transfer to Amboseli

  • View Lake Naivasha and its environs, one of the Rift Valley's freshwater lakes with a different ecology from that of the soda lakes. It is also home to a large variety of bird species.

  • Drive after lunch to Crater Lake, which offers an evocative step back in time - to a bygone era of elegance and romance in a wilderness untouched by the modern world, with a private game sanctuary in a homely environment. Crater Lake offers classic escapes, including painting, astrology, and ornithological outings to what must be one of the most beautiful small lakes in creation.

  • Ask about optional activities at Lake Naivasha, including boat rides to view hippos and a wealth of birdlife, as well as both sport and commercial fishing.

  • Finish the day's activities and depart for Amboseli via Nairobi for lunch.

  • Proceed to Amboseli, arriving in the evening. Amboseli lies on the floor of Mount Kilimanjaro, giving you an unlimited view of the snow-capped mountain that forms its beautiful backdrop.

  • Embark on an evening game drive if time permits.

All meals and overnight at the camp.

Meals plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

6
Day 06

Game Drives in Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro

  • Be woken up early this morning at 0600 hrs with a cup of tea/coffee served with snacks to prepare you for this pre-breakfast game drive.

  • Proceed for game drives.

  • Return to the campsite for a full breakfast at 0900 hrs.

  • Embark after breakfast on a further game drive, where plains game, including zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and various antelopes, can be seen.

  • Have lunch and take a leisure break at the camp.

  • Do more game-watching later at sundown from 1630 hrs, looking out for the peak of Kilimanjaro, which may be seen in clear weather from the observation hill. Large herds of elephants and hippos can be seen bathing in swamp grounds whose water source is Mt. Kilimanjaro.

All meals and overnight at the campsite.

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

7
Day 07

Amboseli to Tsavo West via Kimana and Chyulu Hills

  • Eat breakfast.

  • Proceed to Tsavo East National Park, with a game drive as you exit the park through Kimana Gate.

  • Enter Tsavo West via KWS Chyulu Hill Gate or Mtitu Andei Gate, depending on prevailing weather conditions along the Kimana-Chyulu Hill stretch. Enter the park with a game drive as you head to your camp or lodge.

  • Have your afternoon game drive en route to Serena Kilaguni Lodge. Kilaguni Lodge is situated in the centre of Tsavo West National Park with a view of the Chyulu Hills and the snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro. The main building provides a unique view of the water hole, which attracts zebra, buffalo, elephants, antelope, warthog, and many more. Each room has a view of the water hole or Kilimanjaro.

  • Go on an extensive game drive in the afternoon until sunset.

Dinner and overnight at Serena Kilaguni Lodge or similar.

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

8
Day 08

Tsavo West to Tsavo East and Aruba Dam

  • Eat breakfast in Tsavo West.

  • Exit Tsavo West with an en-route game drive for the neighbouring Tsavo East National Park via the Voi or Buchuma Gates, driving along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway for 100 km with a stopover for coffee.

  • Proceed for 6 km to Tsavo East, with lunch served at Voi Town, near the largest park in Kenya, which covers an area of 13,747 sq km.

  • Arrive at Bachuma.

Physical attractions include Tsavo River, Yatta Plateau, Mdanda Rock, Lugard Falls, the seasonal Voi River, and Aruba Dam. You also have a chance to see animals such as red elephants, rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, and giraffes, among others.

  • Proceed with the game drive until you go for an extensive afternoon game drive from 1500 hrs.
