Day 01

Maun to the Okavango Delta by Mokoro

  • You will be picked up by your tour guide from your hotel in Maun early in the morning and head for the Okavango Delta to meet experienced mokoro polers.

  • Visit the Okavango Delta, Africa's last great unspoiled wilderness, situated in the northern reaches of Botswana. It is a vast ecosystem created as the Okavango River spills over onto the shifting sands of the parched Kalahari Desert. It then fans out to form the Okavango Delta, a 16,000 square-kilometre wilderness of papyrus swamps, shallow reed-beds and fertile floodplains, dotted with islands and laced with a network of channels and lagoons.

  • Board your mokoro around 0800 hours, and you will silently be poled along the quiet waterways to one of its many islands, where you will set up camp for two (2) nights.

  • As soon as the heat of the day relents, set off on foot from the island on your first safari walk within the Okavango Delta.

  • Expect to encounter a fantastic variety of large game during these safari walks, such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras and more.

Day 02

Safari Walks and Mokoro Exploration in the Delta

  • Wake up early in the morning for coffee or tea, cereals, rusks and a cooked breakfast. After breakfast, set off with your guide for your morning safari walk in the Okavango Delta.

  • As you explore the Okavango on foot, you will once again search for game, as the Okavango is world-famous for its rich biodiversity. These safari walks are led by local guides who are part of the community that lives on the fringes of the Delta.

  • On these outings, you may come across a combination of game animals, and you will also be presented with excellent photographic opportunities to capture the beauty of the Okavango. It is possible to spot game such as elephants, hippos, zebras and more during these safari walks.

  • Return from the safari walks around midday to relax and enjoy your lunch.

  • Set off once again in the afternoon to explore the Okavango Delta either on foot or in a mokoro.

  • Return to camp in the late afternoon for a shower, then enjoy a campfire-cooked dinner.

  • Wrap up your mokoro excursion, having immersed yourself in the spirit of African adventure. You will silently be poled along the miraculous waterways of the Okavango Delta back to the mokoro station for pickup by your safari guide.

  • Board your safari vehicle and head back to Maun.
