Uzi Island Tour
- Meet your tour guide at your hotel and begin the Uzi Island tour, a favourite among visitors. The guide will take you to the island by dhow, the traditional Swahili Boat.
- Reach Uzi by a causeway that links the island with Unguja, but only during low tide. When the water rises, the road disappears and then you can only go by boat. The island’s ambience is rural and quiet. The second largest of Zanzibar’s islands, Uzi’s population is only 6,000 inhabitants, made up mostly of fishermen and peasants. Other residents live there temporarily when fishing.
- See how Uzi Island offers visitors a unique combination of forest, mangroves, seaweed farming, bird watching, and deserted beaches. The larger conservation ecosystem includes coral reefs, and many different plants, animals, and sea life. Without restaurants, bars, and other typical tourist spots, Uzi is the most laid-back of all Zanzibar’s islands. It is the ideal place for those wanting to get away from Stone Town’s hectic daily life.
- Spend the day canoeing through mangroves or walking on a deserted beach. The island’s landscape is full of banana, coconut, and mango trees. You will see the iconic baobab trees, unique to the continent.
