The beautiful private island of Chumbe lies off the Zanzibar coast and is lined with quiet and pristine beaches, surrounded by a protected coral reef. It is one of the last pristine coral islands in the region.
See coconut crabs, green turtles, sharks, or even humpback whales. The park includes the coral reef sanctuary, a forest reserve, an education centre, and an ecolodge. Designed for zero impact on the environment, the education centre and lodge were sustainably built, with rainwater harvesting, solar water heating, and composting toilets. Fostering community development and cultural stewardship, local fishermen are trained as park rangers. The Chumbe Environmental Education program provides free island excursions to children, teachers, and community groups.
