Kalpitiya Dolphin and Whale Watching Tour
Set off on boats with trained staff at about 7 in the morning for a wonderful day at sea from Colombo/Negombo.
Witness the best dolphin and whale watching season in Kalpitiya − Sri Lanka, from Mid October until the end of March! During these months, large schools of the playful spinner dolphins are dwelling just three nautical miles out, in front of Kappalady beach. Another 2 miles further out the continental shelf is broken steeply into the deep ocean. Because of the converging deep currents and the rich sea life, this is the preferred habitat for the blue whale, sperm whale and grey whale - the largest mammals which have ever inhabited the planet. The best time for dolphin watching is from November to April when the seas are calmer. A rarer but equally majestic sight, are whales as they migrate through the seas nearby normally in November/December, and then again in March. Sperm whales are the most commonly sighted, but you may be lucky and see a blue whale or minke. Travelling in smaller groups, it is awe-inspiring to watch as they dive underwater with their huge tails in the air.
- Finish a memorable trip to arrive back for a late breakfast with stories to tell for years to come.
