6-Day Tanzania Wildlife Safari from Moshi with Hadzabe and Olduvai

This morning, after breakfast, we will collect you from Springlands Hotel and drive along a scenic route to Tarangire National Park. The park's beauty offers excellent game viewing, and during the dry season, it draws hundreds of animals, making for spectacular wildlife and birdwatching.

The landscape is varied, with grassy savannah plains, swamps, hills, and spectacular baobabs. During the dry season, elephants abound, rubbing against the ancient trunks of baobab trees and stripping acacia bark from thorn trees, while the breathtaking view of the Masai steppe and the mountains in the south makes a stop at Tarangire a memorable experience.

You can see herds and groups of animals such as elephants, zebras, buffalo, and oryxes venturing from Masai to Tarangire in search of water. A few lions also prowl around, looking for unexpected prey in the bush. More bird-breeding species are found in Tarangire National Park than anywhere else on the planet.

Tarangire is traversed by the Tarangire River, which never dries up and serves as the only water source during the dry season. In the late afternoon, drive back for an overnight stay at Highview Coffee Lodge (with lunch, dinner & breakfast) or similar.

After a delicious breakfast, you'll have the opportunity for a drive around Lake Eyasi itself. While this shallow soda lake is not home to the same variety of wildlife found in a national park, you'll still have the chance to spot various bird and mammal species.

You'll also have time to meet the Datoga people. Primarily farmers and cattle breeders, these fascinating people offer another insight into tribal life in Tanzania.

Lake Eyasi is a perfect destination for seeing flamingos, pelicans, spoonbills, weavers, spurfowls, storks, barbets, egrets, and more. The visits also include meeting the Hadzabe people and spending the day observing their way of life.

The Hadzabe are an indigenous tribe known as hunter-gatherer Bushmen. Visit their homesteads and learn more about their lifestyle. Hunting in groups with bows and arrows, this tribe survives on what the environment provides. The Hadzabe bushmen treat diseases with their own medicines and speak a unique click language.

Once your day's activities have been completed, you'll go to Karatu Town for an overnight stay at Highview Hotel (with lunch, dinner & breakfast) or similar.

The drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge takes 3 to 4 hours. Olduvai Gorge is an archaeological site in the eastern Serengeti plains, where early human fossils were first discovered. It features a fantastic landscape shaped by the same tectonic forces that created the Great Rift Valley millions of years ago.

The experience at Olduvai Gorge is an enlightening and humbling adventure, connecting you with the deep heritage that unites us all. In the late evening, return to Ikoma Wild Camp and Cottages for rest, dinner, and an overnight stay.

After a hearty breakfast in the morning, our safari guide will pick you up from the hotel for a full-day Serengeti game drive. You will have packed lunch boxes in the afternoon, or you can drive back to the campsite after the game drive in the early afternoon for a hot lunch brunch.

After brunch, you can opt for relaxation, rest, or swimming. The driver will then pick you up for an evening game drive.

In today's game drive, prepare to be awe-struck by one of Earth's most spectacular wildlife experiences. As you venture into this vast and iconic park, you will witness the legendary migration spectacle, where millions of wildebeests, zebras, and other herbivores journey across the plains in search of fresh grazing lands.

The Serengeti's diverse landscapes, from open savannahs to dense woodlands, provide a haven for the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros), along with cheetahs, giraffes, hyenas, and a plethora of bird species. Your safari will unveil captivating scenes of predator-prey interactions, heartwarming family dynamics, and the harmonious coexistence of wildlife in their natural habitat.

Prepare for an unforgettable adventure, immersing yourself in Serengeti's beauty and wildlife wonders. In the evening, you will be driven back to Serengeti Wild Camp or similar for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, you will enjoy a morning game drive en route to Ngorongoro Crater for a once-in-a-lifetime safari tour. The jewel in Ngorongoro's crown, this thick volcanic crater is the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world.

Upon descending to the crater floor, you will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner of the crater and one of its leading features. The crater is 20 km in diameter and 600 m deep, making it the most intact crater in the world.

An estimated 30,000 large mammals live in the crater, which features a salt lake at its center. This is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in the world. It is also the best place in Tanzania to see black rhinos and prides of lions, including the magnificent black-maned males.

There are lots of colourful flamingoes and a variety of water birds. Other game you can see includes leopard, cheetah, hyena, other members of the antelope family, and small mammals. The Masai and Hadzabe people live together harmoniously with the animals that call this place home.

You will admire the impressive crater and its fantastic inhabitants from the edge. We will drive back to your lodge in the afternoon for your overnight stay.

This morning, drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Set against the steep escarpment of the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park features an evergreen groundwater forest and a variety of ecosystems, including acacia woodland, grassy plains, a swampy fan delta, and, of course, the expansive lake.

This diversity attracts a wide range of mammal, bird, and wildlife species. Manyara is also home to rare tree-climbing lions. The park offers excellent game viewing, with buffalo, impala, giraffe, bushbuck, waterbuck, hippos, and many elephants roaming near the lake.

Also look out for blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, and the very active olive baboon troops. Lake Manyara is an absolute delight for bird lovers, with many species displayed throughout the park. Even the novice can expect to be amazed by large flamingo flocks, circling birds of prey, and the brightly coloured lilac-breasted roller.
