The Citadel comprises several important monuments; it is the home of several Kings of Egypt from about 700 years ago. The Citadel was constructed in 1179 AD. The King who built the Citadel was Salah El Dien; this is the King who introduced the Islam religion to Egypt; he built this place to fortify his position against the Christian people. Inside the Citadel is the mosque of Mohammed Ali; he wished it to be the most famous mosque in Egypt. It is truly beautiful and very spiritual; the art surrounding the washing fountain and the inner sanctum of the mosque is very well done.
- After the tour here, make your way to the Khan El Khalili Bazaar, the famous shopping experience. The mood is electric here, especially the people, the sounds, the smells & the colours of the items for sale.
