The itinerary

1
Day 01

Lake Manyara Game Drive and Highview Hotel

  • After breakfast, drive from Moshi (Springlands Hotel) to Lake Manyara National Park, a journey of about 4 hours. After a picnic lunch in Manyara, begin a late afternoon game drive, which is one of the best times to view animals in this park.

  • As you approach from the east, the Rift Valley escarpment looms on the horizon, forming an impressive backdrop to the lake. In the tall trees of the groundwater forest, monkeys leap from branch to branch, while elephants stand in the shade along the escarpment.

  • Other animals frequently seen here include zebras, impalas, monkeys, giraffes, buffalos, hippos, and more.

Overnight at Highview Hotel or a similar hotel on a full-board basis.

Day 02

Drive to Serengeti via Maasai Culture or Olduvai Gorge

  • Head out after breakfast for the drive to Serengeti National Park. The word "Serengeti" is derived from the Maasai language, meaning "endless plain."

  • En route to the Serengeti, you can opt to visit a Maasai village, a perfect place to explore Maasai culture and even participate in some tribal activities, or Olduvai Gorge, known as the Cradle of Humanity. The museum here is a testament to the long journey humanity has made from its humble roots in East Africa to its current state as the dominant species on earth.

  • Enjoy a game drive en route to your camp.

Overnight at Ikoma Wild Camp or similar (with lunch, dinner, and breakfast).

3
Day 03

Grumeti Nature Walk and Ikoma Night Game Drive

  • Head out after breakfast for a nature walking tour along the Grumeti River.

  • Walk back to your lodge in the late afternoon for a hot lunch and some time to relax while waiting for a sundowner and the evening night game drive. A whole new world of nocturnal animal species awaits you on a night game drive.

  • Ikoma is a scenic gem with a much-praised setting, and it offers a different perspective on the park and its wildlife, especially during a night game drive.

  • Sit down for dinner consisting of a selection of Swahili cuisine prepared at Ikoma Wild Camp.

  • Experience a memorable night safari after dinner.

Overnight at Ikoma Wild Camp or similar (with lunch, dinner, and breakfast).

Day 04

Full-Day Serengeti Safari and Optional Balloon Ride

  • Start your day early in the morning with an optional balloon safari, if you wish.

  • Embark on a full day in the Serengeti with game drives in a park unequalled for its beauty and home to the Great Wildebeest Migration. Huge herds of plains game such as wildebeest, zebra, and antelope dominate the park, while predators including lion and cheetah can be found among the many kopjes scattered across the plain.

  • The landscape varies from open grass plains in the south, to savanna with scattered acacia trees in the center, hilly wooded grassland in the north, and extensive woodland and black clay plains in the west.

Overnight at Serengeti Wildbeest Camp or similar (with lunch, dinner, and breakfast).

Day 05

Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Departure

  • Enjoy a morning game drive en route to Ngorongoro Crater.

  • Descend to the Ngorongoro Crater floor for game driving and exploration. The crater is 600 m deep, 16 km across, and covers an area of 265 sq km.

  • Take in the spectacular scenery and game viewing in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world. Many of Tanzania's last remaining black rhino can be seen grazing on the open grassland of the crater floor, surrounded by some of the 20,000 large animals that occupy the crater, including lion, cheetah, eland, zebra, and gazelle. Flamingos, among other bird species, can often be seen feeding at Makat Soda Lake as well.

  • Drive to your lodge in the afternoon for your overnight stay.

  • On this day, the schedule will depend on your flight timing, so it may also serve as your departure day.

Overnight at Highview Hotel or similar (with lunch, dinner, and breakfast).
