The itinerary

Day 01

Trek from Gushaini to Rolla

  • Walk through the eco-zone of GHNP. There is a gentle gradient at the beginning of the trek.
  • Enjoy lunch consisting of paratha (stuffed Indian bread), pickles, fresh local fruits, and toffee chocolates.
  • Have high tea on reaching Rolla, consisting of soup, tea/coffee, and biscuits.
  • Appreciate the bonfire for all. Sit around the bonfire for dinner with starters, a main course, and a sweet dish.

Day 02

Hike from Rolla to Shilt Hut

  • Enjoy breakfast consisting of paratha, bread with jam and butter, tea/coffee/milk, and fresh fruits.
  • Decide where to camp for the day - Rolla or Shilt Hut - depending on your comfort. It is better to leave Rolla in the morning to reach Shilt by lunchtime. It is a 3-4 hour hike. During the climb, you have great chances to observe the colourful endangered Monal and Western Tragopan. As you reach Shilt, the forest gives way to a large meadow. Without the trees, the view becomes clear and lets you discover the Tirthan Valley and some magnificent peaks more than 5000 m high.
  • Eat lunch consisting of roti-sabzi with salad.
  • Unwind with high tea on reaching Rolla, consisting of soup, tea/coffee, and biscuits.
  • Sit around the bonfire and enjoy dinner with starters, a main course, and a sweet dish.

Day 03

Return to Gushaini from Rolla or Shilt

  • Go for an early morning photography session. For those who wake up early, a scenic sunrise can be observed from Shilt Hut, if camping there.
  • Leave for Gushaini after a heavy breakfast, with a packed lunch en route. The trek ends.

Bird lovers can spot many exquisite species of birds, like the colourful Western Tragopan and Monal. On reaching Shilt, a vast meadow awaits, wrapping the earth like a natural carpet. Here, you can spectate the mighty mountains in their full demeanour; the highest can reach up to 5000 m.
