Day 01

Snowshoe Hike on the Great Mountain

Meet your tour guide at the agreed-upon location in Cluj-Napoca and begin the tour. You will travel by air-conditioned minibus.
Start with a short learning session, where you will be introduced to the basic skills of walking with snowshoes.
Walk through the forest and across the mountain through deep snow and on some steep slopes. This will be a memorable hike.
Keep your eyes open during the 5-hour 30-minute walk over the Great Mountain near Cluj, which brings you to beautiful viewpoints and through deep forests. Your knowledgeable guide will share insights into native plants and animals, geology, and local culture.

What to bring

Basic hiking gear required for a day hike in the summer:

Hiking boots with an adherent sole (Vibram sole if possible), waterproof and preferably with high ankles
Breathable T-shirt, 1-2-3
Quick-dry pants or shorts
Warm blouse (packed in your backpack)
Waterproof jacket
Raincoat
Moisture-wicking underwear
Socks (synthetic or wool)
Hiking poles (optional); we will provide them
Small backpack of approximately 20L to 30L
2L water bottle or reservoir
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
Sun hat
Food for the trail (sandwiches, carbohydrate-rich energy bars, granola, trail mix, and fruit provide an instant pick-me-up on the trail)
For winter hiking, the company will provide snowshoes, avalanche transceivers (if needed), or gaiters

Know before you go

Hiking is made easier by wearing special snowshoes that allow you to walk on top of the snow rather than sinking into it. You will need normal walking boots, as the snowshoes have adjustable straps and will fit over any boots.
Departure and return: traveller pick-up is offered from your hotel or the airport in Cluj-Napoca.

It is important to have good hiking shoes because you will do a 3-hour hike through Turda Gorges.
Not recommended for travellers with back problems, heart problems, or other serious medical conditions.
Not recommended for pregnant travellers.
Travellers should have a moderate physical fitness level.
This experience requires good weather. If it is cancelled due to poor weather, you will be offered a different date or a full refund.
Every participant will be required to purchase their own trek insurance for the duration of the trip, covering mountains in summer conditions up to 2,000 m.
