The itinerary

1
Day 01

From Nairobi through Kericho to Kisumu

  • Depart from the hotel early in the morning.
  • Stop at the viewpoint on the Great Rift Valley to glance at the breathtaking escarpment.
  • Arrive in the green town of Kericho, surrounded by tea plantations, for lunch, and then proceed to Kisumu city, arriving in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 02

Kisumu Museum, Ramogi Hills, and Lake Victoria

  • The full day will be spent in Kisumu, visiting the Museum, the Impala Club, Dunga Beach, and hiking at Ramogi Hills.
  • Enjoy lunch, dinner, and an overnight stay at the hotel.
  • Go boating on Lake Victoria.

Day 03

From Kisumu to Mbita via Kit-Mikayi and Luanda Beach

  • Depart Kisumu after breakfast.
  • Stop at Kit-Mikayi (the stone of the first wife of the Luo tribe) in Seme to learn the history and the sacred attachment of this rock to the Luo tribe.
  • Proceed to Akala market to interact with the locals selling their wares.
  • Continue to Ndori, then further on through the landscape to Luanda Beach for an onward ferry to Mbita Point.
  • Transfer to Lake Victoria Safari Village, a beautiful place that blends the wonders of Lake Victoria, for check-in, followed by a short hike to the hill next to the cottage to glance at the islands around the lake before settling in for dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 04

Traditional Fishing, Rusinga Island, and Ligongo Hills

  • Wake up for an early breakfast, then depart for fishing using traditionally built-up boats, carrying your picnic lunch.
  • In the afternoon, drive past the causeway to Rusinga Island and visit the Tom Mboya Mausoleum.
  • Trek to Ligongo Hills for a panoramic view of the Kavirondo Gulf before driving back to the cottages for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 05

Ruma National Park and Homa Bay Leisure

  • Depart after breakfast and drive to the only known home of the endangered Roan Antelopes: Ruma National Park.
  • After the game drive, proceed to Homa Bay for lunch and enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

Day 06

Tabaka Soap Stone Factory and Lake Nakuru Game Drive

  • Depart Homabay after breakfast and visit the Tabaka Soap Stone factory to admire the local work in different designs.
  • Stop for a picnic lunch on the way, then drive to Lake Nakuru National Park for a game drive in search of both Black and White Rhino, Leopards, Baboons, and the abundant Flamingo birds.

Return to Nairobi via the Escarpment

  • After breakfast, depart for Nairobi via the escarpment, arriving early in the afternoon.
