Join this 3-day tribal experience from Jinka to meet several of southern Ethiopia's ethnic communities. Travel to Turmi to witness the traditional Evangadi dance in Hamer, then continue through Omorate and Keyafer to encounter tribes including the Dasenach, Karo, Banna, Ari, Hamer and Tsemay. The journey also includes a visit to a Mursi village near Jinka, offering insight into the traditions, culture and lifestyle of these original ethnic groups.

The women wear terra cotta jewellery on their enormously stretched lower lips and ear lobes, while the men are famous for their hairstyle.

Day by day

The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Jinka and Drive to Turmi

Arrive at Jinka Airport and then drive to Turmi with your Ethiopian guide.
Visit the Hamer to witness a traditional dance called Evangadi.

Spend the night at the hotel or camp in the village.

Day 02

Omorate Excursion, Keyafer Market and Drive to Jinka

Go for an early morning excursion to Omorate town. Meet the Dasenach and Karo tribes by crossing the Omo River.
Return to Turmi for lunch.
Drive to the weekly market at Keyafer village. Stop here to visit the Thursday weekly market or the Demaka Saturday weekly market.
Next, head to visit the Banna, Ari, Hamer and Tsemay tribes.
Drive to Jinka. Stay overnight at Jinka Resort or Omo Eco-Lodge.

Day 03

Mursi Village Excursion and Departure

Head out for an excursion to a Mursi village (approx. 66 km from Jinka). The Mursi are one of the original ethnic groups in Ethiopia. They live in meagre huts made of straw leaves. The women wear terra cotta jewellery on their enormously stretched lower lips and ear lobes, while the men are famous for their hairstyle.
Drive to Jinka Airport.
