Day 01
Alexandria's Roman Heritage and Coastal Landmarks
- Upon arrival, your Alexandria tour guide and manager will be waiting for you inside Alexandria Port, holding a sign with your name. You do not need to look for them - they will be waiting for you and will find you.
- Explore the inside of the Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa, the largest Roman cemetery, consisting of three levels cut into the rock.
- Drive to visit the Roman Amphitheater of Alexandria, including the display of the sunken monuments of Alexandria that were discovered under the East Harbour of Alexandria.
- Continue to Pompey's Pillar and stop for photos. It was constructed in honour of Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century.
- Visit the Library of Alexandria, the biggest library in the world, now with 8 million books. Explore its open court, where you can see the Statue of Alexander the Great and the Statue of Ptolemy the First, which was found underwater nearby. You will also visit the library's famous Manuscripts Museum, President Saddat Museum, and Impressions of Alexandria Museum. (Note: Alexandria Library is closed on Fridays and on every public holiday. To enter the reading area, you will need to purchase a ticket.)
- Continue to Qaitbay Castle, which was built on the same site as the Ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Once inside, you will see all parts of the castle and also go up to the roof for a panoramic view of the whole city.
- Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Alexandria.
- Proceed to the Gardens of Montaza. On the way, you can make a quick 2-minute stop by the King of Mango and Drink at an Alexandrian drive-thru for freshly squeezed juices, as well as a photo stop at the Unknown Soldier Memorial of Alexandria.
- Finally, you will be transferred back to your cruise ship at Alexandria Port.
