Gobustan, Mud Volcanoes, Fire Temple and Burning Mountain

  • Meet your guide at an agreed-upon location and drive to Gobustan National Park.
  • Check out the oil rigs on the way to the park, which provided the USSR with "black gold" for more than 70 years. This is the district of Baku where scenes from the nineteenth Bond film, "The World Is Not Enough," were shot.
  • Head to the Gobustan National Reserve, famous for its rocky landscapes, where the stories told by your professional guide will take you thousands of years back in time. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Gobustan National Museum and see unique exhibits that have reached us through millennia of history.
  • Make your way to the open-air museum, where you will discover the mysterious world of petroglyphs - rock carvings and inscriptions created by ancient people as well as the legionaries of the Roman emperor Domitian.
  • See the mud volcanoes - more than 300 of Azerbaijan's 700 mud volcanoes are active, and their origin is associated with oil and gas fields. In these areas, you can also observe gas condensate and oil deposits.
  • Tour the Bibi-Heybat Mosque, built by Shirvanshah Abu-l-Fath Farrukhzad in the 13th century. While visiting this beautiful monument, you can also admire views of the Caspian Sea and the tall cranes of the nearby cargo port.
  • Explore the Ateshgah Temple. This fire sanctuary was built in the 17th century on the site of the oldest temple of the Zoroastrians. For two centuries, it has been a place of pilgrimage for Hindus, Sikhs, and followers of other Eastern religions.
  • Go to the famous guest house where the "father of The Three Musketeers," Alexander Dumas, the great Russian chemist Mendeleev, and such famous artists as Vasily Vereshchagin and Grigory Gagarin stayed.
  • Continue to Yanardag - the Burning Mountain. This eternal natural fire, blazing from the depths of the mountain for millions of years, is a unique natural phenomenon.
