Day 01
Athens Highlights and Cape Sounio Scenic Drive
- Meet your tour guide, who will pick you up from your hotel, and enjoy this relaxing tour featuring sightseeing in Athens, a scenic seaside drive, and the magical Cape Sounio.
- Begin your day at Acropolis Hill, the highlight of the tour. On this historic hill, you will see the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Temple of Athena Nike, the monumental gateway of Propylaea, the Erechtheion, and, of course, the Parthenon, the main temple of the virgin goddess Athena - the eternal symbol of Athenian democracy and Western civilization.
- Leave the Acropolis and head towards the Temple of Zeus, passing by Hadrian's Arch. You will then visit Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896.
- Drive along the National Garden, where you will see the changing of the guard (Euzones) in front of the old palace, which today serves as Parliament House, above the central square of Athens.
- Then travel into the historical centre and drive up to Lycabettus Hill, the highest hill in Athens, where you will enjoy panoramic views of the city, Acropolis Hill, and the Aegean Sea.
- Moving on, if you feel hungry by then, a traditional Greek tavern awaits you with authentic Greek cooked dishes or fresh fish and seafood by the sea.
- Afterwards, enjoy a pleasant drive along the coastline known as the Athenian Riviera and the southern suburbs. Pass through the upscale suburbs of Athens - Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza - and make your first stop at the famous Lake Vouliagmeni, a mineral, therapeutic natural lake.
- Continuing your drive, you will come across more isolated yet charismatic areas with breathtaking views of the Saronic Gulf, leading you to the archaeological site of Cape Sounio at the southeastern edge of the Attica Peninsula.
- Upon entering the site, you will see the commanding Temple of Poseidon, the ancient Greek god of the sea, surrounded by the remains of fortifications, gateways (porticos), and houses. Besides its unique location and archaeological interest, Cape Sounio is also famous for its breathtaking sunset and views of the Greek islands. It is rightly considered one of the most romantic places in Greece.
