The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos

  • Meet and greet your tour guide, then head to your hotel for a tour orientation. Later, relax in your hotel room.

Day 02

Explore Lagos Mainland and Island

  • Explore Lagos mainland and the island, visiting important markets, historical places, and some off-the-beaten-track paths.

    • Lekki Conservation Centre

    • The Craft Market

    • The New Afrika Shrine

    • The Kalakuta Republic

    • Buka

Overnight at Omu Resort or Inagbe Beach Resort.

Day 03

Badagry Heritage Tour and Transfer to Cotonou

  • Leave very early and drive towards the historic town of Badagry, visiting the Abass Seriki Slave Museum, the first storey building in Nigeria, the Mobee Slave Museum of History, and the slave route.

  • From here, continue towards the Nigeria-Benin Republic border, known as the Seme border.

  • After immigration, drive towards Cotonou or Ouidah and check into your hotel.

Day 04

Cotonou City Tour and Ganvié Stilt Village

  • Explore Benin's commercial capital, Cotonou, by visiting Babs Dock and also Ganvié, the stilt village that is home to about 39,000 inhabitants.

  • Indulge in bird watching, row on the lover's lane, and see the market on small boats.

Day 05

Abomey Museum and Ouidah Heritage Sites

  • Visit the Abomey Museum of Culture and History, then return to Ouidah to visit the Python Temple, Musée d'Histoire de Ouidah, and the Slave Route.

Overnight at Cassa del Papa, Mariella Hotel, or a hotel of your choice.

Day 06

Cross into Togo and Visit Togoville

  • Leave Ouidah very early in the morning and continue to the Benin-Togo border.

  • After immigration, cross the border and drive to Agbodrafo to visit the Wood Home.

  • After this, take a boat to cross Lake Togoville and explore the town.

  • Leave Togoville and visit the fish market.

  • Return to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 07

Togo City Visits and Drive to Accra

  • Visit the artisan market and the cathedral.

  • Head onward to the Togo-Ghana border.

  • After immigration, continue on a 3-hour drive to Accra, the capital of Ghana.

  • Stay overnight at a good hotel.

Day 08

Cape Coast, Elmina, and Kakum Excursion

  • Leave Accra very early in the morning to visit the city of Cape Coast and Elmina.

  • At Cape Coast, visit Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle, and possibly Kakum Park.

  • Return to Accra.

Overnight at a good hotel.

Day 09

Accra City Tour and Departure

  • Make the most of your last day as you visit the following places:

    • Art and Culture Center

    • Kwame Nkrumah Museum

    • The Mokola Market

    • W. E. B. Du Bois Center

  • Head back to your hotel to rest for a while before proceeding on your onward journey.
