The itinerary

1
Day 01

From Dar es Salaam to Ruaha National Park

  • Depart from Dar es Salaam and meet your Tanzanian safari guide.
  • Stop at the DTC Hotel for lunch and later head to Ruaha National Park, leaving the humid, low-lying coastal belt.

  • Drive along the highway that crosses the hills of the coastal hinterland and dips down onto scrub-covered plains. Tall termite hills can be seen along the roadside, together with members of the local Maasai tribe selling beaded necklaces and belts.

  • Pass the sisal plantations in Morogoro and catch sight of the beautiful Uluguru Mountains rising above the plains and the town of Morogoro.

  • Then pass through Mikumi National Park, where you will have the opportunity to see animals along the road.

  • After Mikumi, climb along the road to the Kitonga Hills, which are part of the Udzungwa Mountains. The road then follows the Great Ruaha River and climbs the Great Rift Escarpment, passing Iringa town before turning left to Ruaha National Park.

Have a short game viewing drive and then return to Ruaha Hilltop Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 02

Full-Day Game Drive in Ruaha National Park

  • After breakfast, head for a full-day game drive on a full-board basis while staying at Ruaha Hilltop Lodge.

Another Full Day in Ruaha National Park

  • After breakfast, head for a full-day game drive on a full-board basis while staying at Ruaha Hilltop Lodge.

Day 04

Drive from Ruaha to Mikumi National Park

  • After breakfast, drive to Mikumi National Park with a packed lunch. The road follows the Great Ruaha River and the Great Rift Escarpment, passing Iringa town, and then climbs the Kitonga Hills, which are part of the Udzungwa Mountains, on the way to Mikumi.

Arrive at Mikumi Safari Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Main destination: Ruaha National Park.

Accommodation: Mikumi Safari Lodge.

Meals and drinks: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included, with drinking water (other drinks not included).

Day 05

Full-Day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

  • After breakfast, head for a full-day game drive in Mikumi National Park.

  • Later, have lunch, dinner, and an overnight stay at Mikumi Safari Lodge.

Day 06

Return from Mikumi to Dar es Salaam

  • After breakfast, depart from Mikumi National Park at around 10:00 am, with lunch on the way as you drive back to Dar es Salaam. During this safari, you will explore two magnificent national parks: Ruaha National Park and Mikumi National Park.

  • Head straight to the airport to catch your flight.
