From Dar es Salaam to Ruaha National Park
- Depart from Dar es Salaam and meet your Tanzanian safari guide.
Stop at the DTC Hotel for lunch and later head to Ruaha National Park, leaving the humid, low-lying coastal belt.
Drive along the highway that crosses the hills of the coastal hinterland and dips down onto scrub-covered plains. Tall termite hills can be seen along the roadside, together with members of the local Maasai tribe selling beaded necklaces and belts.
Pass the sisal plantations in Morogoro and catch sight of the beautiful Uluguru Mountains rising above the plains and the town of Morogoro.
Then pass through Mikumi National Park, where you will have the opportunity to see animals along the road.
After Mikumi, climb along the road to the Kitonga Hills, which are part of the Udzungwa Mountains. The road then follows the Great Ruaha River and climbs the Great Rift Escarpment, passing Iringa town before turning left to Ruaha National Park.
Have a short game viewing drive and then return to Ruaha Hilltop Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
