Morning:

  • At 8 am, the Vietnamese driver will pick you up from your hotel in Hue city and start the DMZ tour from Hue.

  • At around 9:30 am, arrive at La Vang Holy Land. As you know, La Vang Holy Land is a famous pilgrimage place for Catholics in Vietnam. According to the story, the Virgin Mary appeared in this area in 1978 to bless Christians facing difficulties and accidents. Because of this, a holy shrine was built nearby, close to the three banyan trees.

  • Continue along Highway No. 9 to visit Rock Pile Hill. It was a substantial military base of the U.S. From 1966 to 1968, it served as a watchtower for the U.S. Army to control and monitor Vietnamese army activities.

  • After that, in the middle section of Highway No. 9, you will have a chance to visit Dakrong Bridge. As you know, it was an essential part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. From this bridge, it is easy to reach "Hamburger Hill".

  • Continue the tour with a visit to Khe Sanh Combat Base. As you know, in early 1968, it was attacked by the Vietnamese military from the North.

  • After visiting the Khe Sanh Marine Combat Base, return to Highway 1 and have lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon:

  • At around 2:30 pm, continue to Ben Hai River and Hien Luong Bridge with your Vietnamese tour guide. After the Geneva Agreement, they became the demarcation line between North and South Vietnam. In the middle of Hien Luong Bridge, a white line was painted as the remarkable border between the two sides.

  • Last but not least, visit Vinh Moc Tunnels. It is a famous masterpiece created by local Vietnamese people in Quang Tri province. Located 30 meters underground, the Vinh Moc Tunnels were used to survive American bombing. The tunnel complex includes water wells, kitchens, rooms for each family, meeting rooms, toilets, and spaces for healthcare. Sixty families lived inside, and 17 children were born in the tunnels.

  • At around 4:30 pm, drive back to your hotel in Hue to finish the tour.

Know before you go

  • The Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, often called the DMZ, is on the 17th parallel in Quang Tri province. It was created as a result of the Geneva Agreement during the American War. The DMZ was the most intensively bombed area in Vietnam's war history. As you know, it suffered tons and tons of atomic bombs, as well as phosphorus, Agent Orange, and napalm. Nowadays, some historical places still remain in DMZ Quang Tri, such as the old citadel of Quang Tri, Hien Luong Bridge, Ben Hai River, Khe Sanh Combat Base, Vinh Moc Tunnels, and Truong Son Trails. If you love Vietnam War history and would like to learn about the indomitable will of the Vietnamese, the DMZ Tour from Hue is an excellent choice.
