Day 01

Saqqara, Memphis, the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx

  • Upon arrival at Cairo Airport, your professional Egyptologist tour guide will meet you.

  • Start your full day with a visit to Saqqara, 27 km southwest of Cairo, where you can explore the first and oldest complete stone building complex known in the history of mankind, built by Djoser during the Third Dynasty around 2700 BCE.

  • Visit Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, where you will see the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx of Queen Hatshepsut. This city dates back to 3100 BCE.

  • Then go for lunch at a local restaurant with a view of the Giza Pyramids.

  • After lunch, continue to the Giza Pyramids and the Great Sphinx, the most famous monuments of the ancient world. These massive stone structures were built around 4,500 years ago on a rocky desert plateau close to the Nile and continue to amaze visitors.

  • At the end of the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

  • You can also add a night tour to the day tour, such as:

Alexandria's Catacombs, Citadel and Library

  • 7:00 am: Get picked up by your professional Egyptologist tour guide from your stay in Giza.

  • Transfer by private A/C vehicle to Alexandria, around 225 km from Cairo.

  • Arrive in Alexandria around 10:00 am and begin your tour with the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa. The tombs are on three levels and also contain the Banquet Hall, where relatives used to sit on stone benches to have their meals. The catacombs are decorated with bearded serpents, and inside are 2nd-century CE statues of Anubis wearing Roman armor.

  • Then visit Pompey's Pillar.

  • Continue to the new Library of Alexandria, now one of the most extensive libraries in the world, with 8 million books.

  • Then move on to visit Qaitbay Citadel, a 15th-century CE fortress located on the Mediterranean seacoast. It was established in 1477 CE by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qa'it Bay. The citadel stands on the same site as the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria. You will also visit El Mursi Abu Elabas Mosque, where you can enjoy a free walk on the Corniche.
